She wakes up, again her heart beating like a drum, her sweat raining off her body. Tears flowing from her eyes like a river. Her heavy breath calms when she finally realises….
(It's a dream)
Lora holds her chest, she felt like ripping it apart to rid off this weird feeling.
(Again!?)
She sat in bed for a long time, wondering why she had another dream like that. She wondered If she should be concerned or not.
"No way, I'm not going to be some super stitious flat earther."
She got up and took her towel, she eyed the clock by the side of her bed for a a bit.
"I should give her a call, just to check on her." She said as she went off to take a bath. When she came downstairs, her dad was just leaving for work. Her mother was on the kitchen talking on the phone, she motioned her to the breakfast on the table. Lora sat down but didn't touch her food until she dialled her aunt. She answered cheerfully.
"Hello Lora! It's been a while, how are you?"
"I'm fine thanks, I just called to check on you." Lora replied.
"Don't be silly, I'm supposed to be doing that."
"But you don't, it's been a month since you called or came for a visit, what's been keeping you busy?"
"It's just some issue at work, nothing to worry about, don't worry I'll make it up to you next week, we can go out somewhere."
"Then can we go shoot some paintball's?"
"Sure thing, just make sure to come with your friends, I mean it's gonna be boring if it's just the two of us right?"
Lora pulled a mild smile, "ok, anyway I gotta be off to school, see you then!"
"Sure thing darling, see you then."
Lora hang up and set her phone on the table. she then rested her chin on her hand while playing with her breakfast.
"Mom…" she said.
"Yes dear." Her mother answered.
"Is aunt Lana married?" Lora asked.
"Married!?" Her mother seemed startled by the question, she chuckled before she answered. "No Lora, she isn't. She has always turned men do. Without a second thought, she really loves been a bachelorette, why do you ask?"
".... It's nothing really, anyway I have to be off to school." She said whilst grabbing her bag and phone and rushed to the door.
"You're not gonna finish your breakfast?" Asked her mother.
"I'll grab a snack on my way there, bye!" Lora shut the door behind her and left.
While she was in class talking to her friends, she tried to get the thought of that dream away from her by hanging out with her friends. But the effort was useless.
"Guys! I know this may sound exaggerated but I just had another dream."
"Come on Lora." Said Mathew. "I know your aunt just died and all but it's just a dream nothing more."
"I have to agree to that." Said Samantha. "It's hard but I'm sure it's just your head playing tricks on you-"
"Then why does it feel so real?" Lora interrupted.
Her friends could sense the anxiety and confusion in her voice.
"My mind keeps beating me over this dream. Sam it was like I was in my aunt's body, I could feel the glass pierce my organs and it hurt so bad."
"Wait, didn't your aunt already die?" Asked Samantha.
"No, I'm talking about aunt Lana, I dreamt that she was attacked by her ex-husband-"
"You didn't tell me she was married, I thought she wanted to be single." Said Mathew.
"That's the thing, she's not married, she never was, atleast that's what I know." They fell silent, the sound of other students was barely noticeable. Then Mathew spoke.
"Well I'm no psychic or anything, but if this dream actually comes true, which I highly doubt, there are only two conclusions I can draw from this. It's either another highly unlikely coincidence or you can foresee a person's death."
"Besides, when you had a dream about your aunt cassia, It was raining the day she died, and that was the day you told us about it. Is there anything familiar about this day?" Said Samantha.
Lora looked out the window, it was cloudy but no signs of heavy rain and lightning could be seen.
"No, there was lightning and rain in my dream." She said.
"See, nothing to worry about, I'm sure you're just worried too much."
"Yeah." Lora said in a low tone, still staring at the window. "Maybe I am. Oh yeah I almost forgot aunt Lana wants you guys to join us for a paintball shootout."
"Really I can't wait to join for some action." Said Mathew.
"Yeah I need to get away from all these guys and Cleary mind with some violence." Replied Samantha.
When she was home, she didn't even use her Pc, she sat by the window, watching the clouds sail past the sky. The next morning she awoke, she stretched and yawned. Afterwards she got her dream journal from the drawer as well as a pen, when she attempted to write something she stopped.
"Another empty dream huh?"
She paused a bit, then she felt uneasy. She grabbed her phone from the table beside her bed and called her aunt. It kept ringing for a while, Lora could feel her heart in her mouth. When it cut, Lora ringed her aunt again. (Please, please pick up…) It was still ringing, (PICK UP DAMMIT!!). Suddenly the phone stopped ringing, and Lora heard an exhausted voice call out.
"Hello. (Yawn) Hi Lora why are you calling so early?" Said Lana.
Lora was relieved to hear her voice. (Huh, I guess it was just a dream).
"The question is, aunt Lana why are you asleep this late? Aren't you supposed to be preparing for work?"
"Well Lora, I got a day off, it seems I'm not busy anymore, since it's a Friday today why don't we do the paintball thing tomorrow?"
"I wouldn't mind, I'll tell my friends."
"Sure thing, I'll bring some friends of my own too, tell your mom as well, it's not healthy for her to sit home watching romcoms all day everyday, otherwise she'll become your grandmother." They both laughed over the phone.
"Anyway, I'd like to return to my slumber, this is something I earned, so let me savour it."
"Ok aunt, I'll get out of your hair." Said Lora.
"Ok, bye-"
"Oh and aunt?!" Lora interrupted.
"Yes, darling?" She paused for a bit.
"Aunt, make sure your doors and windows are locked okay, there's been an increase in crime lately."
"Don't worry yourself darling I'll be ok. Have a great day at school, bye."
"Bye." She hung up.
Lora put the phone next to her and took a breath of relief.
She entered class and took her seat. Mathew was day dreaming as usual. Samantha asked about her dream, Lora told her she was right and that it was nothing but a dream. Her day went pretty well and she managed to get home before the rain started. She put on her headsets and switched on her Pc. Then she found her friend Dante on discord and she started talking to him on a voice chat.
"HI Dante."
"Hi, Lora, you weren't online yesterday."
"Sorry, I just had stuff I needed to deal with, that aside how have you been?"
The headsets Lora wore deafened her to the sound of the rain and thunder outside, in turn the thunder deafened the world to the sound of a woman screaming for help, strapped to her bed, bleeding while being beaten to an even bloodier pulp. She just lost the energy to scream, meanwhile Lora and Dante were deep in conversation.
"Oh, I forgot to ask, where do you live?" Asked Dante.
"Well I live in starview." Lora replied.
"Really, that's great! I'm actually moving there with my dad next week, we'll my dad is already there, he just went to look for a new house."
"Really!? We can actually see each other then."
*SIGH*
A man just emptied a bottle of wine down his throat, he wipes off the little stream that emerged from his mouth. Slowly, he turns his head to the voice which is desperately warning him to stop his relentless crime. He breaks the bottle of wine, the sound sends his victim into quiet panic, the flashes of lightning illuminates the satisfaction he's feeling over what he's about to do.
"Do you guys have music classes?" Asked Dante.
"Yeah we do, actually, we've got everything really, music, art, poetry… you name it." Says Lora
"Ok, starview high doesn't sound bad."
"I'm telling you, you're gonna love it. But when exactly next week are you gonna be here?"
"Hmm, I think wednesday or thursday, it depends on whether my dad has everything set."
"Alright, (yawn) hey Dante I'm going to bed we'll talk tomorrow?"
"Yeah we can talk tomorrow-"
"You've always talked too much, it's time I shut you up for good!"
"No! PL-PLEASE, I'M SORRY! I MADE A MISTAKE-" Lana screams.
Too late. She is butchered by a broken bottle over and over again, until her lungs are severed and she can't breath anymore. She dies in agony and she sees her killer right above her. Regretting not marrying someone else when she had the chance, her eyes roll backwards into her head and she dies.
Lora goes to bed and covers herself as the rain lightens up and completely stops. (I can't wait to go shooting with aunt Lana tomorrow) she thinks as she drifts into sleep.
