Chapter 41: The Kidnapping

We ambled home late at night, stuffed to the gills after a wonderful dinner at a restaurant that was perched high in the shimmering treetops. The views were stunning, and the food was an educational experience, albeit peculiar. I was encouraged to try some of the local food and only managed to stomach a couple of mouthfuls of colourful sand. The texture was gritty but soon gave way to a popping candy sensation, where the grains dissolved on my tongue. As the menu was illegible, Vazar had ordered some grilled meat and potatoes for me. The rest of the family had a mix of crushed bone, sand and pieces of a vegetable that had no comparison in my world.

Vazar’s brothers said goodnight at the restaurant and made their way back to their respective houses whereas the rest of us decided to walk up the hill towards home, taking in the cool night air to help aid our digestion.

As the house came into view, Vazar’s mum let out a gasp and clutched at her husband.
