This swamp was vast like the ocean, yet beneath the waters were clustered mountains and hills unlike the flat seabed. The merpeople built their fortresses upon these mountains, cultivating aquatic plants and herding shoals of fish and sea beasts.

The houses of the merpeople resembled yurts or igloos, with domed roofs and arched, protruding doors. But that was not the only type of dwelling; some merpeople chose to live within the underwater mountainsides, carving their homes directly into the rock.

Within, bright pearls shone, making the dwellings seem from the outside like the high-rise buildings of a previous life.

The merpeople were rather unique, all possessing cultivation levels, yet they chose to reside in humble dwellings akin to those of ordinary mortals.
