Tyson shook his head, not willing to accept what Skylar said.
"I don't believe you. That can't be possible. That creature was..... It just couldn't be me. I'm human, I look at myself in the mirror every single day and I know for a fact that I look nothing like that thing I saw in my dream.. Heck no!"
"Tyson... " Skylar called softly then shook her head. She didn't know where to start from or how to explain any of it to him. She was completely lost on what to do. As long as he didn't recover his full memory, he was always going to be in denial and she understood; no one would want to accept the fact that they could change into a monster at will especially if that monster killed an innocent person. Knowing Tyson, he would hate himself if he found out that there was a likely chance he killed the lady he saw in his vision. But as long as he didn't stop being in denial and accepted the way things were and what he was, he would never fully recover his memory.
"It's true Tyson. I really don't know where to start from in explaining the whole thing to you but I need you to understand that just because you can transform into something else doesn't make you a bad person. You probably didn't even kill that lady that's why you need to stop being in denial so you can fully remember what happened after where your vision stopped."
"A hideous looking monster not something else. If what you're saying is true then I don't transform into something else, Say it the way it is, I transform into a monster that kills people!" He placed his head in his cupped palm and slowly shook it.
"You didn't kill her, I know for a fact that you didn't."
"How do you know that?! How are you so sure that I didn't?!"
"That's because I know that's not who you are."
"You don't know who I am! I don't even know who I am so how could you possibly do?!"
"Tyson.... "
"I refuse to accept that that was me. Hell no." He shook his head vigorously. "Not me. I'm human."
"Yes, you're human.... But a human with the ability to transform into a massive Wolf. You're a Werewolf, Tyson."
"Wolf?" He asked with a slight frown.
"Yes." She nodded. "And not just any kind of Wolf. You're an Alpha wolf which means you have a freaking pack of your own. A pack without an Alpha is prone to lots of dangers, they are powerless without you. You have lots of people depending on you recovering your memory. The more you delay, the more they lose hope. Most of them think you're dead and completely lost on what to do. This isn't just about you Tyson. You have other Werewolves like you that need you to protect them."
Tyson slowly shook his head, trying to process Skylar's every word. He frowned at her last statement. "Protect them? From what?" Nothing she said made sense to him.
Before Skylar could respond, they heard the snap of a twig behind them followed by a low growl. Slowly, they turned around and watching them through the trees were blood red eyes filled with pure hate. They could literally feel the hateful aura wrapping around them, choking them.
"Do you feel that?" Tyson asked in a whisper.
"Yes. Whatever that thing is, it must really hate us."
"Or me.... "Tyson added, glancing at Skylar. The creature came out from behind the trees and began to slowly approach them, its paw silently hitting the ground; If they didn't already know it was there, it would have taken them by surprise. Finally, it got close enough for the moonlight to reflect on it. They finally saw what the creature was and Skylar knew at that moment that they were in deep trouble.
"What the hell is that?!" Tyson asked, trying to wrap his head around what he was looking at.
"A Chimera."
"Chimera? Isn't that some Greek mythological creature or something?"
"Yeah." She nodded slowly, not taking her eyes off the creature. "It's not a myth, not anymore..."
According to Greek mythology, the Chimera was a monstrous fire-breathing hybrid creature, composed of different animal parts and was usually depicted as a lion, with the head of a goat protruding from its back, and a tail that might end with a snake's head. It was an offspring of Typhon and Echidna and a sibling of monsters like Cerberus and the Lernaean Hydra.
"Is there anyway we can outrun it?"
"Doubt it, its got wings and four legs, we've got just two legs."
"So.... we're as good as dead?"
"More or less." She shrugged and Tyson groaned.
"Great."
"Unless you remember how to transform and get us out of here."
Tyson snorted. "Yeah, right!"
The lion head let out a loud roar and began to slowly approach them again. It glanced between Tyson and Skylar, trying to decide whom to devour first.
"Is there a chance that the Chimera is also a human who has the ability to transform?"
"Yes, of course."
"Any weaknesses?"
"None that I know of." Skylar shook her head.
"All right then." Tyson said and walked to a tree. Not having any idea where he got the strength and was probably going to think about it later, he snapped the tree from its root and lifted it above his head, not feeling the pressure of the weight in any way. "We'll just have to distract it long enough to escape it, hopefully in one piece."
"Wow!" Skylar said in awe as she stared at the tree held above his head. "You might not remember who you are but your body sure does."
"Hmmm." He hummed and lifted the tree even higher and with speed that looked unhuman, he flung the tree hard at the Chimera. Without a second of hesitation, he took hold of Skylar's hand and began to run in the opposite direction. They ran as fast as they could without a backward glance to see if they were being followed or if Tyson was lucky enough to have killed it.
They had no idea where they were running to but what they knew was that they needed to go somewhere safe, somewhere where the Chimera wouldn't find them.
"Are you also a Werewolf? Or something else? Or just a human?" Tyson asked as they ran hand in hand.
"I'm also a Werewolf."
"Why don't you shift then, that way you'll be able to outrun the Chimera even faster. If you're worried about me, you shouldn't be, I'll be fine on my own."
"It's not that I don't want to, it's just that I'm a different kind of Werewolf. Ever since I got her, my Wolf has been dormant. I can't transform, I can only heal. I'm more human than a Werewolf."
"Ohh, I guess that makes two of us."
"Not really." She murmured.
"What do you mean?"
"I can't transform, at all. The only thing I can do is heal as fast as any other Werewolf, other then that I'm useless. You on the other hand, are different. You can heal, can run fast in your human form and can transform, you just don't remember how to."
"You're not useless, Skylar. Don't ever think nor say that, ever again!"
Skylar scoffed and rolled her eyes. "Yeah, right! Says the guy who treated me as an eyesore and tried every means to get rid of me."
"You really can't blame me for that. You literally manipulated me into marrying you at the expense of my girlfriend's life. How was I supposed to react?! Wouldn't you have been more suspicious if I had received you with open arms and a wide smile on my face?"
Skylar sighed. He had a point but she was not willing to admit that.
"I didn't want to believe that you really had lost your memory, I hoped it was a lie but then.... When I saw you? When I realized you couldn't remember and recognize me..... "
"You realized it wasn't a lie after all." He completed in a murmur. "Do you..... Do you know what happened to me? How I lost my memory?"
"No." She shook her head. "That's what I wanted to find out. After confirming if it was true or not, I planned to leave after but... I just couldn't stay away, so I came back."
"So.... that time you left.... "
She nodded. "I wasn't going to return until I found out who did this to you." Not being able stay away was one of the reasons why she returned but she couldn't tell him the real reason why she returned. She couldn't until he remembered fully who he was.
Deep in thoughts and no longer watching where she was going, she tripped over a tree stump, Tyson couldn't save her in time and she fell face flat on the ground.
"Shit!" Tyson hissed. He helped her up and winced at the deep gash on her knee.
"It's fine. I'll heal." She groaned and watched as the gash began to close up. "See, no cause for alarm."
"Where the hell was your mind?! I told you to watch out!" He said as he gripped her shoulder blades
"I'm... I'm sorry, I should have been careful."
"Don't apologize, it doesn't suit you." He scowled then his face softened. "Are you fine? Can you still run or do I need to carry you?"
"I'm fine, I can run." He looked at her knee and not a single scratch could be seen.
"Wow!" He said then shook his head. "Let's go." He gripped her wrist really tight. "Don't drift off again."
"I won't."
"Good." Without wasting any second, they resumed running; running faster than before; way too fast that they couldn't stop in time when the Chimera flew over their heads and landed right in front of them. It raised its claws, preparing to claw Tyson's face off.
"Watch out!" Skylar yelled and shielded him with her body. The long and sharp claws of the Chimera came down hard on Skylar, deeply slashing her back.
The impact of the hit brought them both down with Skylar on top of Tyson.
"Skylar?" Tyson called but there was no response, she wasn't moving, wasn't breathing. "Skylar?!" He called out loud and gently shook her, he was beginning to get scared. He couldn't lose her, he only just met her.
"She's dead." The deep husky voice of the Chimera said. "And you're next."
"That's not true, she can't be dead!"
"My claws are made of silver and no creature of the night can recover after getting hit by one, especially a Werewolf. She's dead!" The Chimera let out a sound that sounded like it was laughing.
"You think this is funny?!" Tyson yelled and gently moved Skylar so that she was laying on her tummy. He took a deep breath when he saw the claw marks on her back. They were so deep you could literally see her spine jutting out and her blood was starting to pool around her.
"See, there's no way she could have survived."
Tyson tightened his fists until he drew out blood.
"You will pay for that." He said in an inhuman like voice and let out a loud guttural roar. His bones began to snap, lengthen, and pop through his skin and back into place. His muscles began to lengthen until his clothes began to rip, his eyes changed into blood red, even redder than the Chimera's. Where his teeth were, were now long and sharp fangs. After seconds of his bones breaking and reforming, in Tyson's place was a huge and massive black Wolf. The Wolf was over twelve feet tall standing on all fours.
The Wolf let out a loud roar and launched at the Chimera.
