Shikaku wanted to stay, listen to Narutos story and ask his own questions, but he decided against that.
Truthfully, the Nara clan head was scared of the blonde. Well, not the boy itself but the person that taught him in the other world, his father figure.
After had Naruto woken up from his coma and shared his story with the Third Hokage, Hiruzen had requested for Shikaku and Inoichi Yamanaka to visit his office.
Although the story sounded quite unbelievable, it wasn't entirely impossible. Nevertheless, to blindly trust in Naruto's words went against their code of work. They are ninja after all, and they had to look underneath the underneath.
The Hokage had ordered Inoichi to investigate this by checking the boys' memory. The old man made sure to remind the Yamanaka to be very careful in his mind probing since Nine-Tails was sealed in the Uzumaki.
Once Naruto had fallen asleep that day, Inoichi had stealthily entered his apartment, without alerting the boy. Using the Yamanaka's clan technique, he entered the Uzumakis mind. Despite being more careful and slower than usual, to not stir up the beast, he very quickly managed to find the blonde's memories of the day before he fell into a coma.
Inoichi found nothing out of the ordinary that happened that day until Naruto fell asleep. The next time he woke up, he was in a forest clearing in the body of a baby. The Uzukami was confused and scared, not knowing what happened or caused this.
Hours went by, and the boy was starting to get hungry. Naruto barely had any control over his small body so he couldn't procure any food for himself. Just as the situation was starting to look grim for the Uzumaki, a young-looking black-haired man walked into the clearing.
The man fit the description of what Naruto had told the Third Hokage about his father figure in the other world. The moment Inoichi laid his eyes on the young-looking man and made eye contact with him, the memory shattered like glass. The magician was starting at the ninja with a venomous look. Inoichi felt like an ant in the man's presence.
"The next time you enter my sons' memories, I will crush your mind. LEAVE!" Zeref growled at the Yamanaka and violently kicked him out of Narutos memories.
The magician couldn't actually follow up on his threat since the distance was too much even for him. At best, he could kick him out of his sons' mind and cause him some light injuries. Nevertheless, it didn't hurt to threaten the ninja in the hopes of keeping him out of the boys' memories.
After getting ejected out of Narutos' mind, Inoichi had to hold down the blood that was gathering in his throat.
The black-haired man had actually been able to sense him while being only a memory? He had even managed to kick him out and injure him? Never in his career had Inoichi experience something like this.
Scared out of his mind, the Yamanaka quickly left the apartment, not daring to stay even a second longer there. What if he could something else? Inoichi didn't want to find out the answer to that question and went to report his findings to the Hokage.
Meanwhile, after Zeref kicked out Inoichi from Narutos' memories, the magician closed the book on Divination Magic that he was reading, and made his way towards his wife's room.
He found the young-looking woman staring through the window. Pretty much the only thing she did after Naruto disappeared.
"Mavis, I finally have some information on Naruto," Zeref told his beloved, causing her to instantly turn around. Her eyes were red from crying, but there was a glimmer of hope in them now.
"Where is he? Let's go and find him." The excitement in her voice was clear.
The ritual she and Zeref underwent was a success, but once both of them woke up, Naruto was gone. They were no longer cursed, they kept their immortal bodies, but their adopted son was nowhere to be found.
Mavis had many fantasies of how they would be one happy family after their curse was removed. How they would travel the world together in hopes of finding a fairy. How Naruto will find a woman to love and introduce her to them. How they will become even a bigger family and find a place to settle down. All of those dreams were shattered since the boy disappeared after the ritual.
"It's not that simple," Zeref told his wife.
"What do you mean?" Mavis asked with a trembling voice, already thinking of the worst-case scenarios.
"Do you remember about that place Konoha that he told us about?" The black-haired magician asked.
"The village where almost no one treated him kindly?" The blonde woman asked in anger.
Zeref nodded to confirm. "Someone wearing the village symbol tried looking at me through Naruto's memories. I kicked him out of Narutos mind and I was able to get a rough idea of where the village is located."
"They did what?" They treated him badly and now tried to enter his mind? Mavis was pissed, to say the least. She promised herself that she will make those that hurt her son pay badly for doing so.
"How do we get to him?" The blonde woman asked her husband.
"It will take a lot of time and preparation," Zeref told his wife.
"But what if something happens to him?" Questioned his beloved in worry.
"He is no longer the small baby that I found in the forest. Naruto is not weak and he can take care of himself." Zeref was just as worried as Mavis, but he wanted to give some hope to his wife.
He didn't know the situation over there, and he wasn't sure if his son is truly fine, but he couldn't bring himself to tell that to Mavis. The best he could do right now is to give some hope for his beloved to hang onto and start working on how to reach Naruto as soon as possible. He already had a dozen more books on Divination Magic that he had to go through, and now he needed to add Space and Time Magic as well in that list.
