Leap of faith

Right in front of his eyes, the calamity finished regenerating completely, then Nathan saw himself standing right in front of a large three-meter-tall pterodactyl, which was staring at him hungrily.

The great calamity opened its mouth, and a great high-pitched shriek came from inside it as several glands in its neck vibrated.

'Yeah... I'm not going to complicate my life you damn pterodactyl'

As Nathan thought that, the pterodactyl raised its two wings and began to flap loudly, sending strong waves of wind at him that forced him to cover his face with his arms.

Then the calamity lunged at him, ignoring all the mercenaries around him.

Nathan threw himself to the side, dodging the calamity's long jaws. The advantage he had over the calamity was that due to its large size, it was easier for him to dodge it... or so he thought.

The pterodactyl turned its neck 90 degrees and closed its jaws on Nathan's legs.

'Shit!'

Nathan immediately filled his legs with essence as he saw the pterodactyl's fangs approach his lower body and gritted his teeth to resist the pain that was about to assail him.

Then the long fangs dug into his legs and the pterodactyl grabbed him with its jaws.

Without hesitation and ignoring the pain he felt in his legs, a black helix unwrapped itself from his necklace and Adan's black fang formed in his hand. Then he raised his upper body and stabbed the pterodactyl's jaw.

The calamity grunted in pain but refused to let go of Nathan, so they had no choice but to continue stabbing its jaws.

Nathan could hear Amelia's screams of concern inside his head, but the pain he felt and the adrenaline rushing through his veins made him focus all his concentration on freeing himself from the pterodactyl's bite.

At that moment, sensing that its prey was resisting more than expected, the pterodactyl began to flap its wings and its large body soared into the air.

'Fuck!'

Unable to escape the calamity's bite, Nathan suddenly found himself flying into the pterodactyl's mouth.

Now, below him were more than 50 stories up to the ground, so if the calamity let go, he would fall to his death.

Even so, Nathan had already achieved his goal.

In mid-flight, the pterodactyl lost its balance and had to glide to the roof of another nearby 30-story building.

The pterodactyl crashed to the floor of the roof and opened its jaw in a moment of weakness.

Nathan took advantage of this to roll out of the calamity's mouth and quickly moved away.

Taking advantage of the fact that the pterodactyl was now stunned by the fear that was beginning to build up inside his mind, Nathan tried to stand up but had to rely on his katana to keep himself upright.

His legs were bleeding profusely, so Nathan feared that the fangs of the calamity must have pierced a major artery.

Fearing that he might bleed to death, Nathan held Adan's black fang in one hand and supported himself with his katana with the other hand.

While the calamity was slowly getting back on its feet, Nathan did not attack it and instead studied his surroundings.

The building they had arrived at was also under construction, so there were various materials around, as well as a construction crane nearby.

Wiping the blood that was running down his face from a blow he had taken when he landed on the roof, Nathan looked at the pterodactyl again and smiled slightly.

'Are you all right?' Amelia asked him with clear nerves in her voice.

Nathan snorted without taking his eyes off the pterodactyl.

'I will be when I'm done with this bastard... I wonder what dinosaur meat tastes like'

Amelia kept quiet knowing that if she spoke she would only get in the way of Nathan's thoughts.

At that moment, the calamity screeched again and began to run towards him, opening its large maw again.

This time Nathan already knew how absurdly agile the pterodactyl was despite its large size, so he dodged to the side and quickly dodged a second time.

The calamity was unable to catch him, and his movement was somewhat restricted by the feeling of fear that prevented him from thinking correctly.

Even so, Nathan was at a disadvantage in an open area, so he quickly took advantage of the fact that he had dodged the calamity's attack and ran behind some large metal construction pipes.

The pterodactyl followed him and began to tear down everything in its path in an attempt to catch him. Nathan slid through the building materials, circling the calamity on the roof, until he reached a dead end.

The pterodactyl stopped running and started walking when it realized that its prey had no more room to run.

Nathan's eyes were beginning to blur because of the loss of blood, but he could still hold on for a while.

The pterodactyl began to shriek and realized that its prey was no longer holding its long sword and was instead holding a rope.

Nathan had kept his katana in the sheath on his hip as he ran and took the opportunity to grab a rope that was attached to the metal pipes that the pterodactyl had pulled down earlier.

Wiping away the blood again, keeping it from falling into his eyes, Nathan began to flow essence into his legs.

'Well... let's play, damn bird'

The pterodactyl screeched and raising its wings began to run with its jaws open towards Nathan.

Nathan stood still instead of dodging to the side, then just at the last second when the sight of the calamity's fangs was right in front of him, he ducked and leapt down from the pterodactyl, exactly onto its legs.

Knowing that no matter how much agility the calamity had, the pterodactyl would not be able to react for a couple of seconds, enough time for him to tie the rope around one of its legs.

Having finished tying the rope, Nathan didn't wait any longer and started to run.

'What are you planning?!' Amelia shouted as she realized where Nathan was running to.

Nathan smiled amusedly but did not stop.

The pterodactyl began to chase him regardless of the rope on its leg. As heavy as the tubes were, for a calamity of such a size it was a negligible weight.

Nathan was getting more and more tired and knew that he could not prolong the fight, so he decided to gamble everything and continued running even when there was nothing but emptiness in front of him.

His heart began to pound intensely and his whole being was screaming at him that what he was about to do was madness.

'You're fucking crazy!' Amelia screamed.

Nathan closed his eyes momentarily.

"You should know that by now!"

When he opened his eyes again, there were only a couple of steps left before the ground ran out. But Nathan didn't hesitate, and calculating the last step, he leapt powering his essence legs into the void.

The pterodactyl was right behind him, so he opened his jaws to bite it and jumped after it as well.

Nathan felt his body float in the air and began to feel everything in slow motion. Even so, his heart did not stop beating dangerously.

Behind him, just a few centimeters away, dozens of fangs threatened to devour him, then time returned to normal, and Nathan stretched out his arms, holding firmly onto the rope hanging from the top of the construction crane.

At the same moment, the tubes that the pterodactyl was dragging with it encountered an obstacle in the way, the body of the crane, with which they became entangled and stopped the momentum of the calamity.

Nathan was centimeters away from being devoured, but now the pterodactyl had lost its momentum and had to flap its wings to keep flying.

However, its weight and speed together with the impact of the metal tubes with the body of the crane made the crane move slightly, and as the pterodactyl began to fly, it pulled the body of the crane... which slowly began to twist.

Nathan who was still attached to the rope at the tip of the crane with a void of over thirty stories below him, felt the crane slowly begin to fall and smiled.

'Holy shit, this is crazy!'

The pterodactyl pulled harder and harder on the rope tied to its leg trying to reach Nathan, but it didn't realize that with each passing second the crane began to fall dangerously towards it.

Without delaying any longer, Nathan began to swing on the rope while he waited for the crane to fall, and then it finally happened.

The rope could no longer withstand the tension exerted by the calamity and broke, so the pterodactyl finally managed to fly towards Nathan. It was at that moment that the falling crane hit the body of the calamity, causing it to lose its balance in the air.

The rope on which Nathan was holding on also moved strongly and he had to hug it and pray that it would not break.

Even so, Nathan had no plans to continue hanging on to the rope, so he took advantage of the fact that the crane was beginning to fall to swing and jumped back onto the roof of the building across the street from where the building was under construction.

The pterodactyl tried to regain its balance in the air, but it was useless with the body of the crane falling on top of it, then without being able to do anything, the crane fell to the ground taking the calamity with it creating a millionaire disaster in the area.

As big and strong as the pterodactyl was, its body was unable to withstand the weight of the crane and it was crushed to death when both hit the ground, creating a cloud of dust that spread throughout the area.
