Chapter 18

Ari walks up the stairs to a room that had boards screwed across them, she leans against the wall and stares at the door.

" Carra r‐‐Run! Carra!!!" Jason said from inside the room, Ari was surprised to still hear him able to speak.

" he told me that no matter what I hear to not let him out or enter the room" Carra said walking closer to her, she leans against the wall laying her head on Ari's shoulder.

" we'll be heading toward the coral reef in about an hour, I have to find Kalae" Ari said kissing the top of Carra's head, she looks up at Ari and gently kisses her lips.

" I'll go pack some things" Carra said making her way down stairs, Ari pulls out her blade then positions it under the door to use to see inside the room.

Jason was standing four feet away from the door facing it, she noticed large masses covering his body and they were sizes from a soft ball to a whiffle ball. She noticed large worm looking things wiggling around straight outside of the mass, just like worms do out of dirt.

She heard a large wet popping noise and a small thud against the floor, she tried to use the knife to spot some kind of movement. When she looked back at the worm-like things she noticed how the width of some was 2 inches to some that was four to six hanging out. ( splash )

Another popping noise was heard, she saw something fall from his chest and it was in a sac the size of a football. The sac vibrated and the head of the worm started to thrash against the floor and slowly the sac broke apart. The four to six inch wide worm started to sliver around the floor, its length was almost four to six feet long. The thing raised its top part off the floor and wayed back and forth, a ripping sound came from it when a beak-like structure could be seen when its skin pulled back.

" what in the hell is that thing" Ari said while watching the thing, its beak-like skull opened up showing its mouth that was full of rows of teeth.

" Carra run they are hatching!!!" Jason screamed and the thing lunged forward latching around his throat as its tail slithered around his arms and chest.

( splash, splash, splash ) She gasped watching different size sacks hit the floor around him when movement to the left of the door caught her attention and the thing lunged at her knife biting down on the blade.

She quickly lets go, backing away from the door and grabs the carpet runner. She shoves the carpet under the door, kicking it tightly in and runs down the steps grabbing her things and stuffing the rest of Carra's things inside the back pack.

" here I know your father showed you how to use this, the safety is off" Ari said helping Carra put her back pack on while Carra grabs the stack of photos and stuffs them in the pocket of her back pack.

Ari grabs two of the gas canisters splashing gas everywhere down stairs and throwing one of the jugs upstairs with the lid off. Carra grabs the leash tight while Ari looks out the peep hole and unlocks the car door.

" ok hurry and get in the car, I'll carry your rifle and you get TNT into the car with you... now" Ari said while throwing a lit book of matches down.

Carra gets herself and the dog in the car while Ari shoots a few of the infected people in the head that are approaching her.

" help me please !! " a woman screams out from next door, sitting on the grass on top of her legs.

" shit ! a pregnant woman " Ari said while making her way around the car, Carra furrows her brows when she watches Ari not get in the car and then she sees her neighbor April.

When she remembered a giant cockroach-like thing dragged her into the house shes sitting in front of.

" I thought she died " Carra said feeling guilty that she couldn't help her, even though she tried.

Carra slides over into the drivers seat, she starts the car driving on the lawn toward where April is sitting, when she notices something off with April.

" Ari get in the car now !!! " Carra screamed out the cracked window, Ari slowly moved forward.

" Shes just right there Cara pull the car up to her and help me" Ari said when a loud clicking noise came from the house in front of them making Ari stop then quickly look at the house with the doorway broke wide open and the large bay window that has a trail of mud going up the side under the window looking like a burrow of something.

Carra looks at the woman's swollen face and her stomach that makes her look like shes pregnant with twins. Ari was a few feet away from the woman when she saw something crawl across her face under her skin. Carra's voice brought her out from a daze.

" she's usually skinny, yesterday she was smaller than me !! " Carra screamed at Ari, steps back away from the woman and the woman started crying loudly.

" I'm sorry I was too late and this is the only way I can help you now " Ari said with a tear running down her cheek as she looked at the woman nodding her head.

Tears of blood ran down her cheeks, while trying to crawl towards her and Ari points her gun at the woman pulling the trigger.

The woman's body hits the ground, different parts of her back start to jerk and then thousands of clicking noises could be heard. Ari looks over to the house seeing large insect looking creatures coming from the house and smaller ones pouring out from underneath the woman's body.

" Let's go !! " Ari shouted over the noise, she climbed in the car and Carra took off getting back on the road avoiding the big black wolf in the road that her dog seemed to like as he wagged his tail.

Ari sees a black wolf staring at them when they pass, the bugs seem to stop chasing them when they stop in front of it, she turned around to watch from the back window when she sees a woman walk next to the wolf and raises both arms to the sky. A purple flame catches the line of houses on fire, the purple flame burnt everything in its path and burned brightly.
