Chapter 17

Tai was heading up the trail which wasn't as rough as she was told, pot holes yes and if they go slow enough then all the vehicles, supplies and the people shouldn't have no problem so far.

" Tai I've missed you " Calista said gently squeezing Tai's thigh making her breath hitch at how close she was to her member, Tai kayed her hand over Calistas hand and held it while she saw deep potholes.

" that looks bad " Tai said slowing down and driving closer to the right, they went by one of the four potholes while the tire was spinning in the mud but went through and Tai looked over at the map showing Calista where to mark on the trail.

" mark in small writing with Xs about the potholes and mud " Tai said looking at her gps and the time, they've been driving for over an hour at a good speed until now.

" we're about forty miles away from the cabin " Calista asked looking from the map to the GPS, she then pulled out the compass to see which way they were heading when Tai covered the screen with her hand.

" ok about thirty three miles heading north...North east " Calista said with a smug look making Tai smile then nod her head as Calista smiled looking back at the map noticing a trail on the map but didn't see one on the right.

" Tai is this map wrong or am I seeing this wrong " Calista said pointing to the trail while Tai looked over at the map then noticed a place that was marked unidentified on the map.

" it might be overgrown and probably private property that's not been visited in a while Tai looked at the map then to the GPS that doesn't show the road or structure on it.

" damn now I'm curious " Tai said pulling to the side to get off the trail in case someone would pass, she got out then held the hilt of her handgun and cursed in her mind forgetting her other gun.

" grab your sword and make sure the doors are locked " Tai said picking up a long stick to check the mud which wasn't that deep beside the next pothole they'll need to go by, the thick bushes on this road would take probably twenty minutes to clear for a vehicle to go through so she grabs Calistas hand walking down the narrow trail.

" we'll go see what's up here then go about twenty more Mike's or so then head back " Tai said enjoying spending time with her, Calista was happy and also plans on spending some quality time with Tai.

They walked for almost twenty minutes before they seen a concrete structure that was basically a three floor cube with a large metal garage door and a thick metal door that was discolored by the elements a dozen feet from the large shutter.

" what is this place " Calista said as Tai looked around for any tracks from tires or someone and could t find anything.

" I really don't know maybe it use to be a work ship that someone owned and perhaps shut down " Tai said walking over to the door while taking her flashlight out from her pocket and Calista smirked pulling out her phone putting her flashlight on.

Calista handed Tai the DAO sword and she unsheathed it while Calista pulled her hand gun out taking the safety off, Tai bangs on the door then put her ear to it.

Tai nodded her head then turned the handle making a loud creaking sound when she opened the door, Calista shivered when they looked down a small hallway that was pitch black except where the light was shining in.

" this is creepy...but I'm interested now so let's go " Calista said as Tai went inside first, she looked back at the door debating about closing it, which she does because one of the infected could wonder in and do a surprise attack.

" why'd you close it !" Calista whispered yelled while smacking Tais arm making her giggle, she shines her light down the hallway seeing several doors in both sides of the hall.

" keep quiet and listen for any noise that's not from us, don't hesitate to fire your weapon if you see something but make sure to pay attention to how it moves, looks and if it's running away than more than likely it's not an infected but it doesn't mean they won't harm us ok" Tai said as she flips the safety off her gun in the holster while gripping the sword tightly.

They walk to the first door in the left that has a window in the door, Tai shines the light around seeing several desk and other furniture and some electronics.

" those computers don't look that old, maybe a couple years old" Calista said noticing the screens, Tai nods in agreement and opens the door while looking around the room also checking the lockers that has eight of them lined up.

" There locked " Calista said as Tai smirks at her while holding the light in her mouth, she got on her knees and layed the sword down quietly pulling out something that had over a dozen thin bobby pin looking things.

" you little shit " Calista said pinching Tais cheek, Tai smiled then hands Calista the sword to hold and opened the first locker. Inside was pictures of a man with his family hanging up and a lab coat with key cards laying on the shelf that she puts inside her pocket.

Tai also found a black snub nosed .38 that's fully loaded with a half of box of shells behind it, she smiled then hooked the holster on the other side of her belt.

" look there is a back pack " Calista said so Tai picks it up seeing some red files with a few USB drives inside, she puts the box of shells inside the bag then takes the lab coat that had the name Swanson written on the front making her face go pale.

" Calista we should leave and come back later " Tai said going to the next locker that didn't have a lock since it was empty they moved to another one that Tai unlocked as well.

" Calista keep your eyes on the door, if you see something even if you think your eyes are playing tricks on you still let me know " Tai said as Calista nodded then turned to watch the door.

She found some more files on the shelf along with a disk and another USB drive so she puts them inside the bag too, fourth one was empty and the fifth had a combination lock so she went to the next one and unlocked it. Inside was a picture of two attractive women who looked familiar to her but she couldn't remember so she takes the picture then found a stun gun with the charger and a tactical knife that she puts on her belt.

" Two more lockers...go check the drawers, see if the computers have any drives that was left " Tai said working on the next lock while Calista checks the drawers finding a bottle of aged whiskey and a few bottles of nerve medicine along with some strong pain meds inside the desk so she takes all three placing them inside the back pack. She pulled out a red file that was an inch thick so she takes that as well with a key card that had two black stripes while the one Tai had was red, the next desk had a switch blade in the drawer with a handheld audio recorder and also threw stacks of small tapes of eight in each stack that was held together with a rubber band.

" interesting a recorder, switch blade...oh look this camcorder is a new model and I found the charger " Calista said looking inside the other two desk where she only found a bag of weed and yes she took that as well as the pack of papers.

Calista was looking at the computer when she noticed the red light on the bottom of the screen, she swallowed hard then looked up at the corner seeing the light to the camera was lit up as well.

" Umm Tai this place still has power " Calista said backing up where Tai was going through the last locker finding a pouch that had vials of something along with darts and a air rifle that shoots them.

" well I'm sure if security was still here then we'd been surprised a long time ago, not saying that no one is here or isn't dangerous...just keep your eyes open " Tai said as she fiddles with the combination lock and she hugged out a giggle seeing the numbers taped above the locker.

Tai put the combo in and when she opened the door she shoves Calista away when an infected with mummy looking skin with the lips and nose already rooted away staring at her.

" Shit...Tai " Calista said as the locker started to rattle with popping noise coming from the dead creature as it tries to come out of the small space and when it stepped out the thing fell face first on the floor then groaned making it somewhat comical until yellowish pus leaned out from it's eyes upon contact. The thing snapped its back all the way back where its head was almost touching the back of its knees when it sniffed the air and made a menacing face snapping it's teeth together while its head was toward Calista completely ignoring Tai. The thing raised up with its back still bent in a unnatural way while it walked backwards toward Calista and Tai wasted no time driving the sword straight through it's brain making a loud thud on the floor when it's body fell over.

" watch the door " Tai said, she looked through the lab jacket finding a few small tapes that look like they belonged with the one Calista found so she threw them inside the bag making Calista out the bag on. Tai looked back down to the woman's corpse seeing a brown stain on the lab jacket, the woman seemed to be wounded and someone shoved her inside the locker.

Tai found a key card that was around her neck so she pulled it off and seen the picture of the woman who was a very beautiful woman before her untimely death and infection.

" maybe we should go " Calista said but Tai could t leave this place without finding the information or any smokes that Olivia needs to find a way to fight against this virus, Tai puts the key card with the others and then find a small hand-held device that she recognizes right away.

" it tests for radiation showing you if radiation is present or how much is there and if it's a safe level or dangerous" Tai said handing Calista the device to put inside the bag, Tai pulled the pouch out reading the vials one was a heavy sedation that could put out an elephant while the other one is a poison that could kill any living thing with only a drop.

She looked at the darts that was colored red, yellow and green so she filled the red ones with the poison, the yellow with the sedative then two of the green ones with the other vial that she didn't know what was inside and out the caps back on the two inch needles then put them in the holder that was on the air rifle while loading a yellow dart in the rifle.

Tai put the sword back in its sheath using the strap to hold it on her back while she attached the flashlight to the air rifle taking the lead outside the room and glanced back at the Computers before exiting the room then stopped a couple of steps outside the room cursing under her breath.

" we need to collect the modems real quick in case I can't later " Tai said as they go back inside the room using the tactical knife to undo the back of the modem pulling the drive from each one shoving them inside the bag then left the room taking the lead padding two doors that was the shower/bathrooms and went to the next one that was the mess hall that she looked inside seeing clean tables stacked with different can food along with stacks of bottle water.

" definitely need to stop on our way up to take this stuff " Tai said walking out the mess hall closing the door back, they go to a door that had stairs leading up and one leading down where a shiny metal door with a card reader beside it.

" what do you think up or down first " Tai said biting her lip while Calista looked each way before pointing up while pouting.

" at least let me work my nerves up before we go to a creepy sci-fi looking basement" Calista said as Tai nodded in agreement going to the first floor that led into a dozen small labs, Tai quickly looks through each lab room collecting anything that she needed which wasn't much. It seemed that nothing of what she needed or about the virus.

They make their way up to the second floor where there was a game room, tv room and a library where Tai and Calista grabbed a duffle bag they found collecting a few books that would interest them plus the others before they go up to the third floor where the scientists rooms where they lived while working there.

" look they take the key card " Olivia said pointing at the doors while Tai looked at the key casrds that Olivia handed to her.
