FEAR.
A damning emotion that paralyzes a human being whilst in the face of perilous happenings. The heart races and trips over its beats while the body locks and tenses. An internal frenzy begins, outweighing the common sense in the stem cells of the brain. Hazes any reality of the person, leaving them vulnerable to danger.
There were various emotions that could've taken over me just now. Anxiety, or maybe my adrenaline, but fear overwhelmed me and burned through my veins. I knew it showed. It was inevitable. If I had been more aware, we wouldn't have been lured here like hummingbirds to nectar; I wouldn't have fallen right into the vampire's snare when he kidnapped my friend.
I held my breath as I gazed across the long room at the hunter. He made no attempt to step forward or intimidate me. He waited for our eyes to meet, and he smiled this polite smile - a smile that enjoyed my unbridled horror. To have instilled fear in his prey, his enlightenment increased tenfold.
His unnatural black eyes gleamed, watching me as if he were about to pounce on me right then.
Dread filled my stomach, and I knew I was going to die here alongside my sister and friend like lambs to the slaughter. My body involuntarily trembled under his vulturine gaze. His hungry eyes thirsted for blood - our blood. He wanted it, craved it.
At once, before I was able to flinch, he lunged at me.
