Wade was thrown off because of this answer but he didn't show any signs of turmoil on his face thanks to his long years of experience. Instead, he continued staring at Sam for the answer.

Looking at Wade's reaction Sam was quite shocked to be fair enough. Seeing the situation getting out of his control Sam was rather bothered by it, because such a situation has never happened during any of his recruitments.

He had been recruiting a number of guys in the last few years and most of them would be quite eager to get the answer after listening to his explanation but looking at Wade, he got a completely different vibe.

It was like the whole situation was under this guys control and no matter what kind of answer he came up with Wade wouldn't be bothered by it.

Seeing his plan fail Sam wasn't disappointed because, if he could somehow get Wade into his team he was sure that his future missions would be more easily be completed.

After inhaling some cold air to calm his nerves Sam continued, "Yes, and no because even if you are not someone who had taken part in the tournament, you are still welcome into our team.

Our team is a mix-up of people who had taken part in the deathmatches and also who had used their connections to enter the Academy.

But during the mission, all this nonsense I put aside and only those who survive and those who can prove useful during these missions stay in the team.

As for others, some of them die and those who cannot get any benefits during the mission just drop out of the team.

So you can join our team either way. So what will it be, are you in? or are you out?" said Sam while continuing on his way to the dining hall.

Listening to his explanation Wade didn't reply and continued walking but in his mind, various scenarios were going through.

From what Sam had told him the academic life that he was expecting wasn't so straightforward after all.

He would have to go out once in a while to do missions as he didn't have that many magic crystals on him to gain the knowledge needed to become a Sage.

Even though with Abby's help the gathering of knowledge would not be a hard part but that would only be for the free knowledge provided by the academy.

For the advanced knowledge which is kept private and can only be comprehended with the help of magic crystals or academic points would require him to go through these missions.

Also, his future endeavours would need many experiments which have to be brought by magic crystals.

From the stash that he had acquired from Larry's Locker, he only had a dozen of these magic crystals on him.

He had already given two of them to the old man at the administration office. Right now he didn't have more than six or seven of these magic crystals.

If what, Sam was telling was true then after a month, he wouldn't even have magic crystals to attend more lectures to gain knowledge.

Still, from what Sam had told him there were deaths in this Mission and given his current strength he wouldn't even be able to protect himself.

Being able to win against Larry had taken all he had and most of it was due to his luck. If by chance Larry had not been wounded on that day then the one dying would be him.

Considering all this he looked towards Sam and said, "I do not mind joining your team, but you will have to wait as I do not even know what an apprentice is yet.

I have to first start on my magical career and once I am strong enough to go through these missions.

I will enter the team but till that time if you can save me a spot I would be very Thankful." Wade replied truthfully as he didn't have anything to hide anymore after all he had already entered the Academy and signed the contract, so he didn't have to hide his past rather if he came upfront about his lack of knowledge nobody would bother him.

Listening to his explanation Sam knew that Wade was someone very likely to have come from a background which had no prior connection to Sages.

Considering this there were two possibilities. Either he had been taken in for his magical aptitude or he had won a tournament by chance.

Either way recruiting such a person would be helpful to his missions in the future, so without any further thoughts, Sam answered, "No problem, man. You can start with your magical training and focus on it, for now.

I think when you enter the second rank of apprentice stage you can start taking missions. So I will talk to you about it then. How about we share our crystal ID through the crystal ball, so that later when we need to contact each other it would be easier.

Wade without any hesitation took his crystal ball out as well as he already knew the function of sharing the ID of crystal balls.

They both clicked their crystal balls against each other and their ID's had been exchanged.

It was similar to how messages could be sent through any smartphones in the outside world.

While they were talking they had already leads reach the dining hall. The dining hall was magnificent and so big that you could almost fit thousand of people in it.

The service system in the dining hall was kind of a buffet, all the food was ready at the sides and you can take whatever you want to satisfy your hunger but if needed, special dishes could be prepared but they needed magic crystals as payment.
