Chapter 0: Introduction to the Lore of Dandadan and another

General Explanation:

Dandadan is a new-generation manga with a lore that deals with urban legends.

In this complex universe, any paranormal rumor and conspiracy theory is possible, such as the example of the Sumerian people having connections with extraterrestrials.

Types of Entities:

In the Dandadan universe, many entities are mentioned, but some have not yet been shown or haven't revealed their true power, like the gods or the mountain yōkai, which are sometimes worshipped as deities even though they are not.

Note: The only mountain yōkai shown so far is literally a kid. Although he hasn't displayed the full extent of his power or used his potential to the maximum, he has already shown significant destructive capabilities and overall immense strength.

Entities Shown So Far:

Spirits: These are deceased humans who haven't crossed over to the afterlife and wander among the living.

Details: Spirits can only be seen by humans who are spiritually aware. Just like the living, they possess an aura, an energy that maintains their existence.

Without this aura, a spirit would collapse into the void and be forgotten by both the dead and the living. They are attracted to beings or things with a large amount of vital force.

Other Details: Spirits can roughly be categorized into two main groups:

• Yōkai or malevolent spirits: These are spirits hostile to the living. They become known to humans and receive nicknames so that people can be wary of their existence.

• Earthbound spirits: These are spirits unable to pass on to the afterlife due to their strong attachment to a specific place. It is said that a medium cannot exorcise an earthbound spirit as long as it remains on its designated territory, as it becomes stronger in that place.

Note: There are also guardian spirits, but so far, only one has been shown in the story, and it seems to be a subcategory of yōkai, like the mountain yōkai.

Abilities:

• Possession: Spirits can possess the living and freely control their bodies.

• Immense physical strength: Spirits are usually much stronger than an average human.

• Fusion: Two spirits can merge into one entity if they form a pact.

Extraterrestrials (Aliens):

Aliens refer to all living creatures outside of Earth. In the galaxy where Dandadan takes place, there are 666 different species.

Details: While the various extraterrestrial races of the galaxy know each other, humanity in Dandadan remains the only intelligent species that has never officially had contact with other intelligent races.

Humans believe in the existence of aliens only due to conspiracy theories.

Two reasons explain this:

• The "empty space" or "ether": a dimension projected by aliens during their activities on Earth, which prevents spiritually weak humans from perceiving them.

• Disguise: aliens hide using disguises.

Notes:

• Aliens are extremely technologically advanced compared to humans. They have spaceships, highly powerful teleportation devices (between galaxies, even beyond), and Nanoskins.

• Although their technology is highly advanced, the supernatural abilities of yōkai surpass their current science.
