Boss Battle - Mewtwo Strikes Back

"Good luck!"

Daniel cheered after catching a Togepi, feeling very happy.

Although he played "Pokémon: GO," he had terrible luck. Since the game came out, he had hardly ever encountered any rare Pokémon. While others had collected all three starter Pokémon, he only had one, and while others were catching rare Pokémon, he only caught common ones.

But today, he actually caught a Togepi? And it even had the Serene Grace ability?

Using Chansey's catchphrase, he felt very "lucky."

"Maybe today is my lucky day. Should I see if I can catch any new Pokémon?" Daniel muttered to himself, planning to continue wandering around to see if he could find any rare Pokémon. Suddenly, his phone vibrated, making him very happy, so he checked it.

To his surprise, there were no rare Pokémon. Instead, his Bluetooth headset played a sound like something exploding. Then, the screen changed, showing an animation.

The animation depicted a high-tech laboratory that was currently experiencing explosions and fire. Researchers were screaming, running, and crying out in pain.

A creature that looked like a mix between a cat and an alien, with a silver-white body and purple tail and abdomen, appeared on the screen.

A voiceover began:

"Mewtwo was created in a lab on a remote island by ambitious humans who obtained Mew's DNA from a fossil. Mewtwo felt anguish over being nothing but a lab product and destroyed the lab. Later, it met Giovanni, the leader of Team Rocket, who suggested Mewtwo help him catch Pokémon in exchange for helping Mewtwo control its power. Eventually, Mewtwo realized Giovanni was just using it as a tool and destroyed Team Rocket's headquarters. After defeating Giovanni, Mewtwo returned to the island where it was created and began plotting revenge on humanity..."

This Pokémon didn't open its mouth, yet a voice came through Daniel's headset.

"Who am I? I never asked anyone to create me, nor did I ask anyone to bring me into existence!" As it spoke, its eyes glowed blue, its voice gradually filling with hatred, "I hate everything that created me, so... I will take revenge on humanity!"

A red energy ball was thrown at the phone screen, seemingly about to burst through, and finally hitting the screen, forming several words—BOSS Battle! Mewtwo Strikes Back!

Event Time: Sunday, August 28th, 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM

Looking at the frozen screen, Daniel was stunned, then he realized something.

Was this a game event?

Not only did Daniel see this animation, but players all over the world saw it when they logged into the game. This was something Ren had specifically set up.

Ren planned to introduce world bosses every once in a while.

The bosses would appear in the order they debuted in previous Pokémon movies. For instance, this time it was Mewtwo Strikes Back; next, it would be The Power of One featuring Lugia, and after that, Spell of the Unown: Entei, and so on.

There were just too many Pokémon movies. Ren had managed to buy some of the TV series and movies, but Picca's animation department was incredibly busy.

Ren's many manga series were being adapted into animations, there were movie adaptations, and "Year Hare Affair" was also in production. The team had no time to produce everything.

Ren didn't want to hand the production over to other companies, as they might ruin the original work. So, he decided to introduce the content through the game.

Wherever the game was available, each city would have a Mewtwo event. Players needed to go to city squares, parks, and other places where temporary bases were set up to challenge the boss.

Players who participated in the boss battle would receive rewards.

To involve more players, Ren chose the event time to be on the weekend.

Moreover, players who reached the boss locations could receive free game perks.

Players within the base would receive various buffs, and those with support skills among their Pokémon could help each other.

Of course, the bases were not like Pokémon Centers that could revive Pokémon.

Ren had deliberately designed it this way.

In the game, there were two ways to revive fainted Pokémon: going to a Pokémon Center or using Revive items. Apart from daily login bonuses and trainer level-ups, Revive items could only be obtained by spending money.

In a boss battle, every second counted, and the more damage dealt, the better the rewards.

For those who wanted to maximize damage, spending time going to a Pokémon Center would be a waste, so they would likely spend money on Revive items.

This way, Picca Comics could make a lot of money.

After the event was announced, it sparked many online discussions.

"Ah, I love it! The event is on my day off!"

"Duh, who doesn't have the weekend off?"

"Well, I don't. I only get one day off a week, and this week it's Saturday. I have to work on Sunday. So jealous of you guys!"

"This game sucks! Why do I have to go to a specific location to fight a boss?"

"What's the point of playing Pokémon: GO if you don't go outside? The whole game is about going out and exploring!"

"Exactly. I heard someone in the US went to a military base to catch Pokémon!"

"Don't even mention it. I heard someone went to a war zone in Afghanistan."

"I wonder what the rewards for this event will be. Could everyone get a Mewtwo?"

"Are you dreaming? I bet only the top players will get character rewards, while the rest of us will just get some items or something."

"Yeah, not worth the trip for that. These games are all about making money."

As players eagerly awaited the event, the day finally arrived for Mewtwo Strikes Back.

At Ren's house:

"Mommy~~~"

"Mommy~~~"

Ren and Yueyue stood beside Jada, looking at her with pleading eyes.

They both wanted to participate. Although Ren could easily use his position to have the game department alter the data for him, that would take away the fun.

"Alright, you two can go," Jada finally relented under their intense stares. However, she made sure to remind them: "But don't wander around too much like last time and come back late! If you're not back by six, I'm locking the door!"
