Who to trust
The creature Kael held made gurgling sounds, trying to reach for Kael's face, but Kael held it up by the bony neck, suspending it in the air with a calm look on his face.
Jacquelyn, on the other side, swallowed back the bitter taste rising in her stomach. She could feel her head becoming light just from staring at the creature; she had to bring her hands down to her knees and inhale deeply.
When she finally felt a little better to speak, she asked in a breathy voice, "Please tell me that's not my mother."
"Hm?" Kael tilted his head to the side. "You mean this?" he asked, turning the creature around as if it meant nothing. Then he brought it down, letting the ghoul crawl back into the grave.
"It's not your mother...but it's searching for your mother's remains."
