Catching up

"Its been so long Damian, like, 12 years?"

"Yes princess, you left when you were eleven"

"I missed you"

Damian smiled.

"America has done you good. Last time we saw each other, you couldn't look at me or call my name without the prince title"

"And now its you who can't call my name" she giggled.

"How have you been? When did you come back?"

"I've been around for two weeks"

"Are you back for good?"

"I've graduated, so, yeah. I'm back for good. You, how have you been?"

"Good, I guess. Its been one function after the other"

"No girls?"

"Just one"

"Jane?"

"You remember her?"

"Of course I do. The girl hated everything about me. I can only imagine how happy she was when I left the country"

He laughed

"What about you?"

"You mean relationships? I've never been in one, I'm not ready for the stress"

"That's very surprising"

"I am full of surprises" she smiled

"I was really excited when my parents told me you'd be here today, a little nervous too. But I was totally shocked when I actually saw you. I expected to see you in a dress, heels and stuff like that"

She laughed

"My parents tried and failed. This is the kind of princess I am" she said as she stopped and picked a flower.

"Its pretty" she said

"Very pretty" he mouthed, staring at her.

"I think we should head back for lunch now, I'm starving"

"Its really good to have you back"

"Its good to be back" she smiled.

"Thank you for hosting us your majesties, we had a wonderful time" said King William.

"It was a pleasure to have you all over. Let's do this again next time, when Sophie can join us"

"Oh, that'd be lovely. We'll take our leave now, good bye"

"So, what'd you think?" Queen Evelyn asked Damian the moment the princess and her parents had left.

"About what?"

"About Diamond. I told you you'd like her"

"Mom, we were childhood friends, I've always liked her. We've just been apart for way too long, and without contact"

"Well she's back now"

"Are you trying to set me up with Diamond?"

"But of course, I always told you she'd make a wonderful Queen"

"And Jane?" he asked, taking a seat.

"Baby, we've discussed this already, Jane is characterless . We have to think of the kingdom's future"

"But we've been dating for four years"

"That doesn't matter. I asked you this before Damian, you didn't answer. Do you love Jane? or are you still with her because you pity her"

"Mom"

"Every time we discuss this matter, you only talk about how long you've dated. You never mention being in love with her. Holding onto Jane when you know that your relationship won't work is just harsh, let her go now, you're both young"

"But Diamond isn't princess-like"

"Because she's free-spirited? Baby, I wasn't royalty until I married your father and I can tell you this. Being a princess isn't about fancy dresses and being overly polite. Diamond is everything a princess should be. Jane isn't the one for you, she isn't the one for this kingdom. Diamond might actually not be the one for you either, but you've gotta seek to find, don't you think?"
