Chapter 96 - Murphy's Law

Everything feels wrong. My days are all jumbled up. I go through the motions, merely existing. I hope that tomorrow will bring a better day but it seems that’s just what it is; hope.

Nothing feels right anymore. There’s a knot that’s formed in my stomach that won’t go away. It squeezes me every which way. Especially when I hear Austin gently leaving the room beside ours.

He isn’t mad. That’s what’s so crushing about it. He’s just distant, mostly non-combative in a way that he’d rather let me be than face any problems. He’s decided to stay at his study whenever he isn’t working downstairs.

He comes home and works at night too. Maybe it’s his excuse to not see me.

I don’t see my friends, I don’t see my mom. My only companion these days is Charlotte.

Dinner is a quiet affair consisting of a mute Austin with a poker face. Eye contact is a rare thing nowadays. It’s a miracle if he asks me to pass the salad.

It’s one of those dreary meals that we discussed an important matter.
