For Biscuit, 8/2001 - 4/2020

So, my old lady died today. There were signs...she wasn't eating and when she did, she couldn't keep it down. When we went to the vet, she only weighed 3.5 pounds...

So, on hiatus for a couple of days. Going to go curl up with some books, chocolate and my young lady who keeps looking for Biscuit...

For the kitty who loved me:

Cotton

My mom is crying again today,

The anniversary of when I went away.

She found a mousie under the bed,

The one that was black and red.

*

I remember when I got that one.

I was lying warm in the sun.

Mom came in, face alight.

And I knew the world was right.

*

She pulled out a little white bag

Of the sort she stuffed with rags.

From it wafted a wondrous scent

Of the sort that's heaven-sent.

*

And then came out my new mousie

Whom Mom then named 'Lil Bowsie.'

The fur was soft and colored strange

And feathers on the back were arranged.

*

I played with it for some few days

And then one day it got away.

I'd no clue where it went

Until Mom's cries at my heart did wrench.

*

I wish I could curl up by her side,

The way I did before I died.

I'd purr and knead and act real cute

And that sadness so refute.

*

Instead I brush against her leg

Because it's only on this one day

That I can come and comfort offer

And hope her tears I can stopper.

*

It's okay, Mom! I am here!

You don't have to fear.

Where I live, it's so nice,

With fields teeming with silly mice.

*

And the skies are filled with birds.

If I tried, I couldn't catch a third!

So please, Mom, stop your tears.

It's not as bad as you feared.

*

And I know that one day

You as well will show up to play.

So while I play and wait and watch

I hope your heart will once again be caught.

*

There's another waiting in the wings,

Wishing for a Mom to give her things.

A sister dear to share your love

While I wait for you above.

*

Stop your tears and dry your eyes.

It's time for you to realize

That while I'm gone, I'm not forgotten,

And I'll always be your darling Cotton.
