꒱.. Shinju pokes at the questionable food she is served as she sits at the empty table by her lonesome. She pouts as she fiddles with the plain uniform that makes her blend in with the rest of the kids around her.
Her brother made well on his threat when he picked Shinju up the other day. He had made her train without rest for disobeying him, making sure she will never do it again. And to make the punishment worse, she can't visit Samuel for the rest of the week.
"Stupid jerk," Shinju mutters to herself before someone taps her shoulder distracting her from the clever insults she wanted to make against her brother.
"Hey, Shinju do you mind if we sit with you?" Daniel asks with a beaming smile.
"Sit? With me?"
"Uh-huh."
"Of course!" Shinju giddily responds shaking her head quickly getting dizzy.
Daniel, Zoe, and some other guy both settle in their seats on the opposite side of Shinju. In no time, Daniel begins chatting up the brown-haired guy and occasionally asking Shinju the same questions trying to get to know them better.
The guy looks a bit uncomfortable and confused, but Shinju happily answers his questions hoping this will lead to them being friends.
The group attracts stares from every corner of the large room, as they are an odd group of people sitting at the same table.
"Yeah, and I remember when I tried eating a colored pencil, let me tell you guys they do not taste as fruity as they look. Anyways what are we looking at?" Shinju giggles as everyone isn't really paying attention to her story anymore.
It seems that Zach is trying to fight again.
All this fighting reminds her of her older brother and their family before they moved.
She slightly winces at the sudden headache, this always happens when she tries to think of her old home.
"Shinju, are you alright?" Daniel asks out of concern.
"Uh huh, just fine Danny!" She shakily forms a thumbs up holding onto the side of her head. Through the corner of her eye, Shinju notices Vasco and instantly smiles but quickly winces due to the pain.
Daniel must've noticed Vasco too because he waves toward him, but Vasco continues his glare as he saunters to the table.
"Ah, hey," Daniel tries greeting Vasco, but he completely disregards it.
"Who are you? You know me? What'd you do to her?" Vasco sneers at him.
"Oh no I'm fine," Shinju speaks up as the pain begins to dissipate.
"You. You've never been taken down, huh? Even if you're good-looking and strong, don't screw around," Vasco grips Daniel's shoulder. Everyone from around the cafeteria peers at the altercation.
"S-Sorry if I bothered you. I thought you were someone else," Daniel apologizes, removing the squeeze from his shoulder. Everyone gapes in surprise as Daniel stands up to Vasco.
But just as Vasco is about to make the first move, his friend steps in.
"Haha yeah! So you thought he was someone else?"
"Yeah, sorry." Daniel apologizes confusedly.
"Nah it happens. What class are you? Fashion?"
"Yep."
"Oh, so you are the new guy."
"Yep!"
"Forget it and eat."
"Okay!"
Everybody is still gawking at the situation whispering about Daniel.
Before leaving Vasco turns toward Shinju and the boy, "Hey girl and the little guy, don't surrender to guys like that. Believe in yourself."
"Huh, what's he talking about?" Shinju murmurs puzzled.
"Anyways, you guys wanna hear about the time I almost got kidnapped? It all started with an ice cream sandwich."
