Climbing the vines up to the balcony seemed the only logical choice at the moment. The doors had been shut, and she needed to get into that party. There were only two balconies, but only one was covered in overgrown vines, just the leverage she needed.
It wasn’t hard to use them as stepping stones, though Fable had to lose her shoes halfway through to do so. The worst part was climbing up in a fancy dress like the one she wore. Fortunately, it proved easier than she thought.
Until a face appeared right over the edge of the railing, scaring the daylights out of her.
“Fable?” Somebody gasped, but she was already falling backward, struggling to keep her hold on the vines as she shrieked in alarm, swaying back and forth on the unsteady greenery.
A hand reached down, grabbing her arm, and she latched onto it with everything she had, dangling in the air as their combined strength pulled her up and over the railing.
