Chaotic System: A Former Assassin in the Game of the Gods

For too long, Riku was content with the simple life of a sushi chef. Having left behind the hectic life of an assassin, his knife now only knows the flesh of fish and food as he hones his craft with both the poor and rich alike. His skills translated well into running his restaurant, his professionalism and dedication to having a perfect record refusing to leave him even in such a low stakes job as running a sushi restaurant.  But then, just as he was cleaning up, he was whisked away to participate in a game that would determine the new god of all existence. While lacking in knowledge about his new surroundings, Riku is still a professional through and through. Offered with the bounty of having his unconditional wishes granted, the Goddess that summoned him wishes for him to win her this game. Well, then he'll just have to make sure that their victory will be as complete as he could possibly make it... Against fantastical beasts and opponent Champions, his skills as an assassin and a combatant will be put to the test. He'll just have to make this Chaotic System actually work to his favor instead of it randomly spitting out nonsensical situational powers that he couldn't use. *** The Deep Blue... The home of the Gods... For eons, the Thirteen Gods have lived together in harmony together with the God Father within the Deep Blue's calm waters. Together, they watched over the universe, content with simply observing as they all worked in tandem with their respective aspects to exact their Father's will. That was, until the God Father died without explanation, and His power locked away until a successor was chosen among His children. Left with an ultimatum, the Thirteen Gods argued on who should inherit their Father's power. Eventually, the arguments became clashes, and the gods eventually realized that them fighting to the death would spell the end of the world. Thus, an agreement was formed. Each of the Thirteen Gods would choose a champion from the sea of souls to fight on their behalf. These champions would brave the Deep Blue's dangers to reach the very bottom of its depths, and whoever gets there first would grant their patron god the right to inherit the God Father's power. Or at least, that was the original agreement. One goddess chose to defy her siblings, deciding to take matters into her own hands by choosing a former assassin-turned-sushi chef as her Champion. Granting him a power well beyond the rules of the game, she is certain that Riku would be the one to end her siblings' endless debates. After all, a goddess of chaos need not to follow the rules...

83 Overclocking

{NYX POV}

Nyx frowned as she saw Shizu leave. She didn't know how or when the other Champion even thought of going beyond the means of her own life, but she very much disapproved of such a notion.

"So that's what Overclocking meant..." she whispered to herself in both worry and something almost close to anger. "Shizu..."

Going beyond mortality, or as Mimir had called it using mortal terms, Overclocking, was something that she had heard her siblings talk about well before the Game had begun. The possibility of their Champions borrowing much more power than they could handle wasn't really restricted, so much so that it was even more of a last resort than the Trumps that gave them. Even worse, it was much easier to attain than simply using said Trump in the first place. Granted, they weren't really advertising it as a thing their Champions could do, but the fact that it was still possible really didn't sit well with her.

Seriously, why the others decided to leave such a blatant ability to have their Champions somehow kill themselves was beyond her. Still, if that was what her siblings wanted, then who was she to fight against them?

"I just hope my Champion doesn't get the same bright idea..."

Sighing to herself, the Goddess of Chaos simply shook her head as she continued with her work. Fixing the ship all by herself, Shizu's barrier thankfully prevented any further damage from slowing her down. The fortune teller must've not noticed it, but she was pretty sure that the barrier still protecting the ship should've disintegrated ages ago. Instead, it remained steadfast against the attacks still raining down on it, its shimmering threads shining a bright green with each icicle that crashed against it.

She was pretty sure that Shizu Overclocking herself must've done something to the potency of her abilities.

"Yeah, really shouldn't show this to my Champion," Nyx told herself with a click of her tongue.

Well, hopefully it would disappear on its own given time. That way, she wouldn't have to bother giving her Champion even the slightest idea of what could possibly the most stupid move any mortal could ever do if they were given godlike power.

With one last flex of her power, Nyx let out a smug smile of satisfaction as she felt the boat beneath her feet float back up as good as new. It wasn't much in terms of achievements when it came to gods like her, but it was still a job well done, in her opinion.

Of course, that meant that all she had left to do now was wait for all of the chaos to end.

Smirking to herself, the Goddess of Chaos snapped her fingers, creating a lounge chair right beneath her before letting one of her many chaotic tendrils to fetch a plate of food for her from the cabin. Well, that was until she realized that what little food her Champion made her prior had just been scattered onto the floor, which left her pouting as she elected to simply sit on her chair and kick her feet up in wait for her two companions.

"Speaking of which, I wonder what's happening with my Champion right now?"

Absently speaking to herself, Nyx thought for a single second to maybe try and contact her Champion. It wouldn't been easy too. However, her laziness won out in the end as she decided that her Champion was strong enough on his own to not need her to check on him anyway. Instead, she sunk deeper into her lounge chair, content with the barrier protecting her and the ship as she closed her eyes and nodded off.

If either of the two ever came back, then she'll wake up. Either that, or her Champion would just wake her if he ever wanted her to do something.

{RIKU POV}

Riku clenched his jaw as he eyed the thick sheet of ice preventing him from surfacing. He had a rough plan on what he had to do, but he had to do it quickly and properly if he didn't want to just get dunked back into the sea the moment he got his first breath.

Watching the shadows above him, the former assassin quickly located the feet of the one person that caused him this mess to begin with. It would seem that the old man was walking toward the the direction of the river he was cutting for the ship, possibly to try and sink it and Shizu with it to get rid of the competition. Well, that was assuming he could even get there in the first place.

Forcing his limbs to move, he shook off the numbing cold threatening to make him shiver to death in favor of following the old man's path just a few meters beneath him. His knife bubbled and fizzled in his grip, Shizu's ability still in play as it provided him with much needed melting power against the overwhelming ice above him.

'Need to breath soon...' he thought to himself as he felt his chest start to seize up on him. 'Perhaps...'

Looking up, he made sure that the old man had a decent lead away from him before quickly swimming up to a place where he thought the ice was thinnest. Then, aiming his knife upward, he stabbed it into the still thick ice. Gritting his teeth, he slowly cut a circle through the ice, his burning knife thankfully making quick work of the obstacle before he finally managed to make it loose enough for him to move.

Carefully, he slipped the loose slab of ice underneath the sheet itself before then climbing back up, keeping a low profile as he let himself recover from the intense cold he just experienced. Still, that was just one part of his job done.

Now, he had to somehow approach this man without alerting him. If he could just get one good stab in, then he would probably already be the winner of this exchange.
