Chaotic System: A Former Assassin in the Game of the Gods

For too long, Riku was content with the simple life of a sushi chef. Having left behind the hectic life of an assassin, his knife now only knows the flesh of fish and food as he hones his craft with both the poor and rich alike. His skills translated well into running his restaurant, his professionalism and dedication to having a perfect record refusing to leave him even in such a low stakes job as running a sushi restaurant.  But then, just as he was cleaning up, he was whisked away to participate in a game that would determine the new god of all existence. While lacking in knowledge about his new surroundings, Riku is still a professional through and through. Offered with the bounty of having his unconditional wishes granted, the Goddess that summoned him wishes for him to win her this game. Well, then he'll just have to make sure that their victory will be as complete as he could possibly make it... Against fantastical beasts and opponent Champions, his skills as an assassin and a combatant will be put to the test. He'll just have to make this Chaotic System actually work to his favor instead of it randomly spitting out nonsensical situational powers that he couldn't use. *** The Deep Blue... The home of the Gods... For eons, the Thirteen Gods have lived together in harmony together with the God Father within the Deep Blue's calm waters. Together, they watched over the universe, content with simply observing as they all worked in tandem with their respective aspects to exact their Father's will. That was, until the God Father died without explanation, and His power locked away until a successor was chosen among His children. Left with an ultimatum, the Thirteen Gods argued on who should inherit their Father's power. Eventually, the arguments became clashes, and the gods eventually realized that them fighting to the death would spell the end of the world. Thus, an agreement was formed. Each of the Thirteen Gods would choose a champion from the sea of souls to fight on their behalf. These champions would brave the Deep Blue's dangers to reach the very bottom of its depths, and whoever gets there first would grant their patron god the right to inherit the God Father's power. Or at least, that was the original agreement. One goddess chose to defy her siblings, deciding to take matters into her own hands by choosing a former assassin-turned-sushi chef as her Champion. Granting him a power well beyond the rules of the game, she is certain that Riku would be the one to end her siblings' endless debates. After all, a goddess of chaos need not to follow the rules...

111 Ragnarok

"I feel like we're forgetting something, Big Sis."

"Nonsense~ I'm pretty sure we're still on the right track~"

Nyx couldn't help but feel a bit suspicious of Ragnarok as they walked around aimlessly throughout the planetarium. She was pretty sure that they were supposed to meet their Champions together, but it had been a long while since they started walking together, and it almost felt like they haven't made a lick of progress despite what felt like almost an hour of walking on a straight line.

But then again, that was probably just Big Brother Astra's design pulling tricks on them again. Also, Ragnarok was the type to wander aimlessly like this sometimes. Maybe she just had the unfortunate timing of joining the older deity in one of her wanderlust streaks. In that case, then Nyx would just have to wait. It wasn't like she was in a hurry anyway.

"Alright. I was just making sure, is all," Nyx smiled back.

"What? Is Little Nyx worried we won't make it to the other side again?" Ragnarok playfully teased.

"That was one time, Big Sis," the Goddess of Chaos whined with an amused smile. "Besides, that was your fault too. You made us late for a general meeting because you wanted to go outside for a bit."

"But it was fun though, right?~"

Nyx laughed at her sister's cheerful innocence. Despite being the literal Goddess of the End, Ragnarok was the purest soul she had ever seen in her long life. Not even that one guy that got God Father to notice him was as pure as the goddess that was currently walking beside her with a radiant smile on her face.

"Yeah, it was," she relented, a resigned smile on her face as she pulled her hood up to hide her blush. "Still can't believe I trusted you enough that we won't be late though."

"But we were late together," Ragnarok wistfully pointed out. "There's a difference, no?~"

"Yeah..."

Absently, Nyx looked up at her elder sister's smiling face. As always, the comforting presence that Ragnarok gave her was something that she treasured. Sure, Big Sis Kali felt like that sometimes when she wasn't outright ignoring her, and Big Brother Astra wasn't really as comforting as he was just chill to be with. No... Ragnarok, while feeling a bit more incompetent than her at times, just exuded a soothing presence wherever she went.

Still, that didn't stop the traitorous part of her mind to think that she was seeing more within fellow goddess's eyes.

"Nyx, can I ask you a question?"

"Oh?" she raised a brow. "What is it?"

"What do you think of our siblings?"

Nyx blinked at such a loaded question. She had her opinions, most of them bad, but she still loved them all the same. After all, she could at least tell that they all cared for her in their own ways... even if it really didn't feel like it most of the time...

"Why do you ask?" she questioned back.

"No reason~" Ragnarok cheerfully deflected. "Although, don't you think that they're always just ignoring you too much?"

The Goddess of Chaos paused in her steps, making the Goddess of the End stop beside her as they both looked at each other straight in the eye. Somehow, there was a gleam of mischief in Ragnarok's eyes that Nyx couldn't help but notice. A gleam that was so uncharacteristic of her elder sister that she didn't even want to believe it was even a thing.

"Don't you just want to show to them that you're more than just the youngest of us all, Little Nyx?~ That you're so much more than everyone gives you credit for?"

Ragnarok's words struck a chord within her. Ignoring the slightest hint of uncharacteristic malice in her favorite sister's tone, Nyx couldn't help but nod along as her own frustrations started to come back out. She loved them all, yes, but she really did have something to prove. Why else was she blatantly breaking the rules in this Game if not to show the rest that she was just as much of a god as they all were? That she wasn't someone to be bullied just because her own Aspect made her who she was today?

Still... she didn't want to say that out loud. "Maybe?" she meekly replied. "It would be nice to be taken a bit more seriously. But really, I just want the bullying to stop..."

A hint of a sob escaped her lips, something that she didn't really want happening as she felt Ragnarok's hand land on her shoulder. It wasn't a common occurrence, but it still felt embarrassing to be babied like this.

"Don't worry, I'm sure things will get better soon," Ragnarok soothed her, her lilting voice making it easy for her than any other. "As your Big Sister, I'll make sure of it."

"T-Thank you, Big Sis," Nyx weakly smiled. "I believe in you."

In truth, she really didn't. There was a reason Ragnarok was considered an airhead by her siblings. She wasn't as chaotic as her, but the Goddess of the End's forgetfulness was even worse than her own, something that even she found was hard for her to work with. She even had a feeling that she might've been bullied before because of it, but without proof, that was only in theory.

"Don't worry. Big Sister Ragnarok is going to make things right."

Despite herself, Nyx continued to nod, not noticing the glint of dark malice tinging Ragnarok's normally comforting and cheery eyes. Not that she cared, however. All that mattered was that she felt truly safe, something that she never felt anywhere else other than in her own Realm or in the lap of the God Father.

"Thank you..." she whispered once again. "Once I win, I'll make sure to keep you in my thoughts."

"I don't doubt that, Little Nyx," Ragnarok chuckled. "I don't doubt that one bit..."

Nyx smiled brightly. She was pretty sure she was forgetting something again, but it was probably nothing. Besides, her Champion was good enough without her help anyway. She could take her time just being with Ragnarok for now.
