Wait. WAIT. What in all the hells was I doing?!
I quickly let go of Mika’s hand and took several steps back as if she’d struck me, but she’d done nothing of the sort. No, rather she’d gone a bit limp, as if expecting me to strike. She had that deer-in-the-headlights look in her eyes, something that made me gasp aloud and feel anger at myself settle in my stomach like a bad blood meal. The temptation to sink my fangs into her throat and drink was so strong, but I’d resisted at the last minute.
That one drop told me everything. She was delicious, among the best mortals I’d ever tasted in my life. My stomach snarled and clawed like a hungry wolf, and my brain demanded I take that bite. Her neck was so tempting, so delicious. My nostrils flared as I felt the urge to stop resisting and just lunge. “So delicious,” I whispered, something she unfortunately heard. An adorable whimper emitted from her lips, making it all the harder for me to stop myself.
