Lilah held Ruby by the shoulders and shook her, trying to get her out of her state of shock. An elderly couple next to them looked on in concern. “Get her some gin!” the old lady urged.
“No, wait. Here’s some water,” Lilah said and she held a half-full glass of water to Ruby’s lips. “Here, Ruby. Drink this,” Lilah coaxed.
Ruby felt as if her head was spinning on the inside.
“Don’t try to move, just remain still,” Lilah whispered and allowed Ruby to lean against her shoulder. The elderly couple got up and left because they were confused about what was going on.
Lilah then took Ruby by the hand and led her back to her cabin, where Ruby wept like a baby.
“Was that Severin on television?” Lilah asked. Ruby nodded.
“But I thought you were completely over him, my friend,” Lilah responded in confusion.
“It was not only him. It was him, his wife and a baby! They have a baby!" Ruby wailed.
