The barbeque was held in the late afternoon on that Saturday. Ruby was surprised when Chris showed up alone. She did not ask him where Lieschen was. She hoped that he might give an explanation about that without being asked.
“Congratulations on your new venture Ruby!” Chris shouted in greeting.
“Oh thanks Chris. I see it more along the lines of being a challenge,” Ruby responded with a shy smile.
“Oh don’t be so modest,” Chris chided Ruby. “You certainly deserve the recording contract by now.”
“Well, I suppose Mr. Sanders would not easily make a mistake,” Ruby agreed.
Chris quickly found himself a task, by assisting Ruby’s younger brother, Manuel, with the meat on the barbeque stand. Chris was lost in thought, because now, more than ever, he finally felt the need to say some really important things to Ruby. He so wished that he could tell her about certain things in life which she has been painfully unaware of, although it involved the man that she had treasured so much.
