(Genryujin's POV)

As I walked past the open door of Retsu's room at my estate, I heard her calm and soothing voice call out. 

"Husband." She called

I stopped and froze, when she calls me by that, it means I'm in trouble. 

I backpedaled towards the door and peered inside, seeing that she was kneeling down in the middle of the room, atop of the blanket we usually have sex on. 

"Yes?" I asked

I was on my way to spend some time with Saito, and comfort her with my body, something was off about her demeanor since the last time she was out. Even the last time I visited her, she was her usual self. 

Retsu looked up at me, "Sit." She said seriously

I walked over to her and sat down in front of her, "Yea?" 

"Are you hiding something from me?" She asked, "From us, your wives?" 

I blinked, "What do you mean?" 

"Don't be coy with me." She snapped back almost immediately, "I know you, I've always known you. I know that Central 46, your grandfather, I know that all of them don't matter to you, their orders. These past decades, I've turned my cheek the other way in order to avoid any sort of glances....but I know, Genryujin, that you're letting yourself be controlled." 

I leaned my chin on my arm as I looked at her, "Oh, my dear Wife..." I said, "I cannot fool you, huh?" 

I couldn't help but be mesmerized by that serious face of hers, it reminded me of the old days, it reminded me of Yachiru Unohana, the woman I fell for. Not that this Unohana wasn't worthy of my love, I would die for her, but it's nice to see a tiny glimpse of her old self. 

"For a thousand years, you've carefully manipulated the balance of Soul Society." She said with a serious face, "Genryujin, nobody in this place treats order the way you do. Everything you do is for a reason. And every time people speak about you, your reputation, and your integrity as the Sword God, it bothers me." 

I smiled, "Oh?" I said, "You think it bothers me?" 

"No. Your reputation over the years has been built to a legendary status." She said, "But this past century, the way you've let everyone walk over you, it makes everyone question that status, even a regular soul in Rukongai has-....Wait...." 

She gave me a frown, a very serious one. It's like the gears have turned and the light bulb has turned on in that beautiful head of hers. She has pieced the puzzles. 

"Yes?" I said

"You want them to undermine you....." She said softly, "Is this part of your plan?" 

I chuckled, "Silly Retsu..." I said, "I'm a simple Shinigami of Soul Society, Of course, I have to obey the laws that old fucks like Central 46 pass. Without order, there will be chaos and the balance of the world will crumble..." 

"Only the second half of what you've said comes from you." She said seriously, "The first half, I don't buy. I never have." 

I stood up, "Katori and Saito." I said with a serious tone, "They were bound to be executed all that time ago. Do you think that I didn't want to slaughter all those fucks who even thought of doing it themselves? I would kill for you, I really would. I would dye the skies red with the blood of any bastard that DARES to lay a hand on any of you." 

I looked at her as her expression changed to a worried one. 

"But....the balance is necessary for us to live in peace...." I said, "And their deaths...they would've broken me....Which is why I did what was necessary.....I managed to keep Katori from being executed by marrying her and Saito....her crime was too grave for her to be running around freely like our Wife....even I admit that much. But Time....time is what she needed to do and that's what she got. They imprisoned her on the basis that they'll cause a shift in the balance with her death, her Reiatsu and all that Hell stuff." 

"That is not your words, Genryujin." Retsu said softly, "Those are the words of your Aunt." 

"The Balance of all worlds are necessary, Retsu." I said I walked over to her and crouched down, "Do you want our home to be destroyed? I want to keep that balance, for us! For you, for them.....You've known for all this time...that I will kill everyone and anyone for you....." 

I grabbed her hand and lifted it up, kissing it. 

"But...." She said, "This isn't you." 

"It is." I said, "I will always do what's necessary for everyone. If it keeps you safe, I am willing to be painted as a fucking idiot. I am not just loyal to Soul Society, I am loyal to you." 

I placed my hand on her chin, she was giving me a sad look. 

"You're not going to tell me what you're hiding?" She asked quietly

"I can't, my love." I said with a frown, "For your sake...." 

"Genryujin, you are a fool." She said

"If protecting you and keeping you safe makes me a fool, then I'm the biggest fool." I said with a smile, "My biggest mistake was not slaughtering those idiots centuries ago, letting them seal my beloved Saito away. The Old Priest himself told me to let 950 years pass...and if I didn't, he'll personally deal with me. Oh, I was so angry back then..." 

"You were willing to fight him?" She said as she patted my cheek

I placed my forehead against her, "Of course." I said, "For you, I'll fight anyone. Now, if you let me, I must go and comfort Saito. Something feels wrong about her...." 

"Okay...." She said softly, "Just know that I'll keep my eye on you. This isn't over." 

"Alright..." I said standing up and walking away

"So, me being forced to put this estate under siege..." I stopped to face Soi Fon who was leaning against the wall, "You planned that? Is it some sort of act you're keeping up? Is the Captain-Commander working with you on that?" 

I looked at her, I didn't know she eavesdropped on my conversation with Retsu. 

"Soi Fon." I said

She walked up to me with a serious scowl, "I hate you." She said, "Why in the fuck would you treat me like that? Katori as well!!" 

I looked down, "Katori was aware." I told her

She widened her eyes, "What?" She said softly

"Gramps sent her a message and told her not to worry." I said, "It was an act..." 

"You..." She said, "And what you told Unohana-san....about the balance.....is all that true?" 

I looked at her, "You must tell nobody of that conversation, Sui Feng!" I said grabbing her shoulder

She slapped my hands away, "Don't call me by my real name! You don't deserve to do that!" She growled, "All this, all this shit....it was just your manipulation?! You want everyone to treat us like this?! I thought that the legendary Sword God would not let anyone to touch his women, nobody!! But for you to not only know about the way your grandfather would treat us and even condoning it?! You're disgusting!!" 

She walked past me, bumping me in the arm. 

"Soi Fon!" I exclaimed, "Stop!" 

"No!" She said as she stopped and looked at me, "You....You have always played with my feelings, you never cared about me! The fact that you didn't question my loyalty to the Gotei....I can't believe you used me like this!" 

"You don't understand." I said, "I need people to see me in that light, I can't explain why....." 

"Shut up." She growled, "I won't tell anyone about what I've heard, I just want to get the hell out of here...." 

"Give me space."
