MARGAUX
Ellaine clung to me tightly. She clung to me and cried for her mother, who was immediately brought to the emergency room of the nearest hospital.
It wasn't until her father came when she stopped crying. Eventually, she fell asleep in his arms.
I could have left them then. But catching sight of Paul's devastated expression, I stayed. Against my better judgment, too.
With his daughter slumped over his shoulders, sitting outside the ER, I took a deep breath.
"How sick is she?"
"Cancer. At the very progressive stage." I immediately felt sorry for their daughter. If her mother doesn't survive, she'd be affected the most. It would scar for life.
I would know.
"I'm sorry to hear that."
Paul let out a sigh. He stared at me. It was only then when I noticed the dark circles under his eyes.
He must have lost sleep for several nights.
