Black Blood Mage

Stealing mushrooms and drinking urine is the only way many in the underground and Demon-controlled city of Adonia know how to live. In such a world, how could anyone–much less a young boy no older than five-years-old–survive?

War

Strangely, I never knew that the Beastmen's city was called St. Donovan until I asked Donovan about it. I had never heard anybody reference the city by name before that. It was always "our city" or "the city".

The name came about despite great objection from Donovan himself, and was named, of course, after him. He was named a Saint by the people for what he achieved in combat, paradoxically enough.

Donovan exited the tent first, having to prepare for the impending war. After putting my armor back on, I followed him out.

I was met by the entire Beastmen force prepared for battle. They even had a weapon I had never seen before: a large stone slab reinforced with metal at one end that was so long that it took 5 Beastmen on each side to carry. For some reason, there were a lot of Beastmen that passed out on the ground.

Donovan was no longer wearing his usual tight-fitting clothing, but was wearing armor the same color as his fur, with intricate red etching that made his overbearing figure look like that of a King's.

The armor looked similar to my own, but mine was less intricate and, of course, smaller. He was also wielding a weapon, which I thought was strange since he was strongest when using his claws.

The weapon consisted of a long stone staff that had a thick curved black-steel blade ending at a point on one side. The blade itself was nearly half the length of the staff.

I stood next to Donovan, and on the other side of him was a Beastman that I had seen training others before.

Their fur was a deep green in color, its legs very animal-like, but the rest of its body seemed to fit a human's biology.

They had armor that was made of golden metal sheets that were thinner than Donovan's, but had similar intricate features and some kind of dull gray inlays in the armor.

The armor covered only the vital parts of the body, presumably leaving a lot of room for movement. On the hip was a sheath that contained a blade so thin I didn't know how it would kill anybody, much less pierce through the thick skin that Demons naturally had.

From where they were standing, they looked like Donovan's second-in-command, and was giving a glare to the soldiers that almost made me question what side they were really on.

Most of the soldiers in the crowd had armor that was made from some kind of leather, while only a handful had armor that was made partially from metal.

Comparing the Demons I've seen to the soldiers standing before me, I'm honestly not feeling very confident. But I guess if all else fails, I know I can rely on Donovan.

Then, an explosion sounded out behind us.
