But in Shak's mind, he was calculating.
What would be the cost to hire them all? I don't think our village can buy them, and we might need to sell ourselves... No, I must prevent this!
Shak walked to Dave who was talking to his friends, and then he spoke "Sir... sorry to say this but we can't buy your service, and we don't want to sell our kin..."
Dave looked at Shak then laughed, "Don't worry we won't ask much, we only want a place to stay, food to eat, and I'm interested in the making of that bomb of yours, with that, I would help you."
"That's all?" Shak blinked.
"Yep, that's all."
Shak was confused, Is it really that all? Well, it's not like we can refuse it, all of us would be exterminated if not because of him.
"Thank you!" Shak bowed.
While Dave was talking to Shak, Neal was surprised, this was the first time he saw half-beast.
He thought they are savages who eat anything, but he was wrong, half-beast was kind, more than human.
'They are so kind, yet they are banished by humans, this is just wrong.' Neal thought.
Everyone's eyes were opened, many people thought like Neal, and some of them felt bad since they have tortured half-beast before.
They are kind, but we humans discriminate against them so much they have to go to this desert.

"We need to make a wall, Hadwin can you make some sturdy walls around the village?" Dave asked.
"Yes, but I would need the help of other mages to strengthen it."
"That's good, go and take what you need to tell them I ordered you."
"Yes sir!"
Hadwin then left to make walls.
Then he looked at Neal and then commanded him to make some traps outside the defense to hold them off.
Now we just need to wait...
while waiting Dave was talking about the cactus bomb they made.
"So how exactly did you make it? Dave was curious because he might be able to make a bomb with much more destructive power.
The bomb was made from sand and then it was compressed into a ball inside there is a wind rune that makes the content inside explode. and then outside there is a water rune that made the rune trigger if they hit the water.
I wonder if someone with sweaty hands holds it.... will it explode without the guy knowing it?
"You can keep using the cactus bomb, I will be making something else."
"Something else? What are you going to do?"
"I'm going to make a landmine." Dave smiled.
"Landmine?"
"Uh so it's like this…" Dave explained the basic concept of it.
"That would be great! We can kill them without knowing!"
"Alright let's get working, they might ambush us at night so we must prepare fast!" Dave cautioned
For the activation, they put a weight trigger, if someone stepped on it it would explode, just like a true landmine.
***
At night they were waiting at the walls made by the mage, in a hurry. There is an earthen spike near the wall to stop the monster swarm.
"Look the monster is there!" Shak said to Dave.
There are more monsters than the last time, if they didn't make the bombs he doesn't know what would happen.
"Yeah, ready the bombs!"
One by one people picked the cactus bomb and waited for commands.
When they were preparing Dave trained them to take orders to throw the cactus bomb they have, so they don't just throw at random.
There aren't many landmines so they would be forced to attack using melee combat or magic.
The cactus bombs were going to be used to thin out the numbers.
The monster swarm was closing in, and Dave was ready to give commands.
"Ready!"
Everyone took a stance.
The monster was getting closer and closer.
He waited calmly.
Everyone was nervous.
Then the monster was within his range. "FIRE!"
they all threw the cactus bomb and then threw it to the hordes.
*BOOM*
a series of explosions, cactus spike was stabbing all the monsters killing them instantly.
There still some monster left.
But then the monster stepped on the landmine.
The landmine exploded.
The monster was thinned rapidly because of the explosion, when all the landmine exploded they ran out there, because there were some monsters left.
"Now warrior and mage attack!"
warriors got down the wall and slaughtered the monster using their weapons.
while the mage was chanting in the wall and unleashed spells to buff the warrior and to destroy the monster.
Then it finally ended.
"WE WON!" Dave shouted.
then everyone followed.
Everyone was shouting, and then some cried because it's not like there were no casualties some of their family died.
Dave asked for the casualties and then found out that there weren't many casualties on their side.
only about 2 warriors died, as for the wizard, they were up high in the wall so it's impossible to kill them without getting through the warriors.
All in all, it was an overwhelming victory.
When they were cheering, Dave gathered everyone in the village and then told them the bad news.
"They will come again tomorrow. We must prepare more.
Everyone was shocked.
"And how do you know that? Are you sure you aren't after us? To make us unable to pay?" one of the wolf warriors scoffed.
"Are you stupid? your village chief obviously said it might be from another tribe. Or are you saying your village chief is stupid?"
The wolf warrior who said that looked down in embarrassment.
"Sleep now, tomorrow we must prepare for them to attack us." Then Dave leaves the place and then sleeps in his tent.
After all, you need energy to fight.
