When the acceptance list was posted, not surprisingly, Suxin's name wasn't there. Suxin smiled, turned around, and left the reception room.
Xu Yunhui wouldn't hire her, not in a million years!
"Cheng Suxin, stop right there!" A familiar voice halted Suxin's strides.
"Senior, aren't you curious why you weren't accepted?" Xu Yunhui's smiling face appeared in front of Suxin, the smile arrogant and somewhat gloating.
"Not surprised," Suxin looked at her, "I never thought I would be accepted."
"Heh, senior, you really haven't changed a bit, still as detached from the world as during our college days. But being too detached won't do in this competitive society!"
"Xu Yunhui!" Suxin snapped back, "What exactly are you trying to say?"
"What I mean is..." Xu Yunhui flicked her straight hair with her delicate fingers, then continued with a smile, "You're my senior, after all, familiar faces, right? If you really need this job, I could talk to the manager, keep you on."
Xu Yunhui smiled as if she meant well, but the smile blooming on her delicate face was rather irritating to Suxin.
"Is this your goal? To remove me from the acceptance list and then mock me here?" Suxin stared straight at Xu Yunhui, never knowing a woman could be so cruel, so relentless in targeting someone she had already stripped of everything.
"A joke? Me, removing you from the acceptance list?" Xu Yunhui crossed her arms, walking circles around Suxin in her slender heels, "If you were qualified for this position, would you still have been just a lowly clerk these past five years? No, maybe 'errand runner' suits you better!"
"Xu Yunhui! After all this talk, isn't it just about Liu Haoran?" Suxin was furious, "Rest assured, I, Cheng Suxin, am not interested in such a jerk. I won't compete with you over him, keep him if you like!" She turned around, not giving Xu Yunhui another glance, and walked out of Haidong Securities Company without looking back.
"How unlucky, I thought it was divine favor at first, but then Xu Yunhui showed up!" Suxin complained as she walked.
When she arrived home, Suxin had bags big and small, all filled with food. She felt depressed; how else to vent if not by eating? Why did God have to make her so unlucky this year?
Chen Ziqian came home very early today. Since returning to the country, he had almost daily drowned his evenings in alcohol at bars. Today he had visited his old man's company, intending just to look and then continue his carefree life in New York. But his father was adamant on not letting him go back, accusing him of idolizing foreign things and making money for foreigners rather than helping his own family business. He too was stubborn, determined to leave. This turned into a confrontation, and his father fainted from anger on the spot. Rushed to the hospital, they found out his father's heart was indeed weak, having been so for over two years. This made Ziqian feel instantly guilty, always believing his father was the unsinkable Great Wall, yet he was indeed aging gradually.
But, pushing open the door, the mess in the room shocked him. Empty cans, plastic bottles, and various snack wrappers littered the floor, mingled with lots of nutshells.
Is this his home? More like a garbage dump.
Chen Ziqian's ears were pierced by the "hahaha" of laughter. He looked up darkly at Suxin, who sat cross-legged on the living room sofa, giggling foolishly while watching a comedy.
"Lady! Have you turned this place into a dump?" Chen Ziqian yelled, unable to stand his home looking like a dog's kennel.
"I'll clean up later." Suxin, still holding a bag of chips and without blinking an eye from the computer screen, continued to eat, with crumbs occasionally falling to the floor.
"Get out now!" Chen Ziqian, furious, opened the front door and pointed at it.
"I'm a tenant just like you; why should I listen to you? I'm not going anywhere!" Suxin's tone remained calm, completely disregarding Chen Ziqian's words.
"I'm a tenant?" Chen Ziqian's eyes bulged with rage.
"Even though you have that kind of relationship with the landlord, it doesn't mean you can kick me out." Suxin's words were still calm, she was not in a good mood today, and he shouldn't think he could bully her!
"Fine, just you wait, I'll have you out today!"
Saying this, Chen Ziqian pulled out his phone and quickly dialed a number.
"Afei, I don't care where you are right now, you come here this instant!"
"Yes! Jinfeng Garden!"
Half an hour later, Wang Mingfei rushed into Jinfeng Garden. Big Boss Chen was furious—how could he not hurry? Initially, he thought he could just ignore the situation and let it pass. If Big Boss Chen didn't expel anyone, he wouldn't say anything. But now, it seemed inevitable; he had even left his dinner halfway to come here.
When Wang Mingfei walked into the house, the floor was spotlessly clean.
"Afei, no matter what, you have to deal with this auntie for me today."
"Haha, Ziqian, long time no see, you've gotten more handsome! Come on, let's go out, I'll treat you!" Wang Mingfei said cheerfully, smiling brightly and putting his arm around Chen Ziqian's shoulder, starting to walk out.
"We can go out, but first, deal with her," Chen Ziqian pointed to Suxin sitting on the couch, "by any means necessary!"
"This... this..." Wang Mingfei, having rarely seen Chen Ziqian so angry, was somewhat stunned, "But... she is a girl after all, aren't you always the one who is compassionate towards women?"
"Compassion depends on the target, no need for that with this kind of aunt."
"What do you mean 'this kind of aunt'? How have I offended you? Always 'aunt' this, 'aunt' that! I'm only twenty-nine, for goodness' sake!" Suxin suddenly felt a surge of injustice. What was going on? Why did everyone seem to dislike her?
"I'm not discussing this, either way, you have to move out of my place today!" Chen Ziqian remained firm.
"Even the landlord hasn't told me to move, why should I?"
"Why should you? Afei, tell her why!" Chen Ziqian pulled Wang Mingfei in front of Suxin.
"Landlord, when you rented me the place, you said as long as I abide by the lease agreement, I can stay here indefinitely and you would never ask me to move out," Suxin grabbed Wang Mingfei's arm, reminding him.
"Afei, tell her whether I have the authority to kick her out or not!"
"Landlord, remember we have a contract!"
"What contract? I don't care, Afei, you have to make her leave today, no negotiations!"
"Landlord, you can't just disregard my legitimate rights, because you two have that kind of relationship!"
"What kind of relationship?"
"Alright! Listen to me!" Wang Mingfei's head was buzzing from the back-and-forth attacking words of the two in front of him, and finally, he shouted, silencing the two who were staring fixedly at him.
