Avatar The Last Airbender: Cold Paths

"Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them."—William Shakespeare. This story is about the latter. A man with no recollection of his name, finds himself in the world of Avatar. Forcing to accept the idea that the show he once watched as a kid is not, in fact, fictional has taken a massive toll on him, torn as he is between the awesomeness of his new found powers as well as it's absurdity of how everything came to be, he will do what humans do best, he will overcome and adapt and greatness will follow. to read chapters ahead go to www.patreón.com/cornbringer.

[Vaatu POV]

Raava growled as Akira allowed me to control him, with an angry cry escaping her mouth she lunged forward, quickly sprinting towards me bending all the elements at her disposal, well at least those her body current body could, creating a big elemental lance in a pitiful attempt to pierce through me, but reflex kicked in and I ducked forward, slamming her head against the ground.

--Oof, that had to hurt,-- Akira commented with a chuckle.

--Your body is better suited for battle, Raava on the other hand, has little to work with,-- I inwardly chuckled.

"Is that all you have, sister?" I asked with a wicked smile painted on my face, I was going to enjoy this, thoroughly.

"I will end this Vaatu," Raava hissed, "All you do… all you bring is pain and suffering, I will not let the world succumb into pure chaos,"

"Then… by all means, try to stop me…" I cackled as I propelled myself to her at a blinding speed, with a blue fire blade on my right hand.

Raava startled at my speed noticed an upcoming deadly attack at the last second and only got away with a small, bleeding slice on her torso, at this Akira barked at me, reminding me not to kill the retarded monk, not yet anyway.

"Fine… I'll play nice," As nice as I could.

Raava touched her torso, her hand coating in red, and with a glare sprinted at me again her body glowing white, at this I smiled, she knew deep down she was not going to win a bending match against this body, and when it came to hand to hand combat, Akira heavily outclassed Aang which means I had the upper hand in both parts, so she only had one choice, energy bending. The reason she had won so many times before in the era before human, it pained me to admit it, but her energy bending was flawless.

Normally, I would try to avoid her energy-bending attacks, they are dangerous and very lethal if you don't manage to diffuse them, but this time I was confident not only in my own prowess but in the prowess of the partner I had chosen, so with open arms and a smile, our energies clashed together, creating a rumbling echo through the underground tunnel.

The weight of my energy was dragging her down, bringing the ever-confident Raava to her knees, but she soon recovered and pushed back hard, we stayed like that for a few seconds before she realized I was toying with her.

"You have grown weak Raava," I said, as I pushed my energy beyond what she could currently counter, sending her a few miles back in the tunnel, "I say... it will take her an hour or so to come back," I whistled as I sat down on a rock nearby to wait for her.

--I give her a few minutes,-- Akira chuckled.

Raava, however, broke our expectations and recovered in less than ten seconds and took this opportunity to impale my stomach with earth bending attack from afar, "So this is physical pain, remarkable," I commented, as I touched the wound with curiosity before healing in the blink of an eye.

--How durable are you?! How durable am I? Questions for later.-- Akira said, clearly surprised I had regenerated a few organs Raava crushed with her attack in the span of a second.

"What have you done….?" Raava said as she approached me, her body broken and unable to fight anymore, "Is that human even human anymore?!" she was angry, how very predictable of her, "Have you corrupted this human that much… have you no shame?!"

"Oh dear sister, I didn't corrupt him… though I am not going to lie, I have been trying very hard to do so," I laughed as I heard Akira chuckled in my head, "But all you see right now, is the result of his own training, all I am doing is using his skills... and, of course, is only natural I can use his powers better," I smiled pointing to where she had impaled me earlier, "He is a very capable healer, using water healing and blood bending to heal his own wounds," I chuckled, "Those two make it… easy to regenerate human organs even limbs, and all you need to do so is a lot of power, and well... knowledge about those two arts and voila… super regeneration, this, of course, is impossible for normal human beings, but he isn't normal… he never was, he was remade into a body with massive amounts of spiritual energy, he then was blessed by the primordial, and to add a cherry on the top he then fused with me adding even more power to that very dangerous mix,"

"The primordials…" Raava muttered.

"So when you ask… if Akira is even human… then I suppose the answer is no… at this point, he is closer to being something that has transcended that puny category, but not entirely by my own hands," I chuckled, as I slowly approached her, "So don't be sad you can't win sister, it's only natural… you are fighting not only a spirit born for war, chaos and destruction but the best human humanity has to offer, when you compare that to the anorexic boy you are controlling… well, you come up short,"

"I will not lose Vaatu, no matter how superior you claim your host to be!" Raava snarled.

"I have to admit it, sister, you are indeed strong," At this point, our faces were a few inches from each other, "that's if you're not counting me, you know you can't defeat me... don't you Raava?"

"You might have won this time… but when the Avatar reincarnates… I will come back for you," Raava said looking down, admitting her defeat, right now… ending her life was within my grasp and power, even if Akira was against the idea, even if he wanted to stop me, I would have more than enough time to kill her before he takes control, but I won't do it, I promised him I would not, a stupid sentiment, but one I shall honor today.

"Well, this was fun… but you better hurry up and help the monk's girl," I patted her head, "I had my fun, be sure to make things more interesting next time,"

"You are letting Aang live….?" Raava asked in shock.

"I promised my host I would avoid killing you before some events played out," I shrugged, "And while the past has proven otherwise, I am a spirit of my word to those I respect,"

"You don't respect anyone!" Raava scoffed.

"That was true," I nodded with a smile, "Now go… or stay, to be honest, I don't really care for the girl,"

—Aww you respect me—
