"Tsk. Why can't I beat this stupid boss? I've got my units at LVL 999 with max awakened stats. Ah, I really don't want to grind that new character that they released just to beat this boss. They should've just made it a gacha character so I could buy it with my allowance!"
Seth, a regular high school student is walking beside the road toward his school. He got his eyes preoccupied with his phone while playing his game. This had been his routine while going to school every morning.
"Ah, so close! why is this boss so hard? I guess I really need to grind that new unit, huh? Well, it's free but I really hate grinding such units. I'm a pay2win player after all."
He said that while clenching his other hand. He was thinking hard about his game with some thought of hesitation.
"Alright! 1 more try. If I don't beat this boss, I'll grind that unit even if it cost me my time in logging in on my other games."
After mustering up his will, he tried to fight that boss again in hopes that he can beat it this time around. Whilst he was walking, his friend spotted him and so he called out to him.
"Seth! there you are! I've been waiting for you. I knew you are going to be late again so I waited for you here so we can walk together to school."
His best friend greeted him with a welcoming morning. Although he didn't pay much attention to his friend's call toward him, his friend knew that that's how Seth just acted. His friend put his arms on Seth's shoulders as they walked together to school.
It was a solid 5 minutes of Seth just staring at his phone.
"You always play that game but I've never seen you actually play it. You just stare at the characters and watch them kill the enemy in front of them. Is it really that fun?"
"It is. The fun factor is collecting all these characters that are all different from each other as well as seeing my characters progress to such heights that I know I can't attain. I can't do that in real life."
"I guess it really is fun to achieve stuff, even if it's not in real life."
The two kept walking.
"Seth, hurry up. The street light is about to change color."
"Wait, I'm so close to beating this stupid boss. Maybe I don't need to grind for that character that I can buy once they put her in the gacha pull."
Not knowing what Seth was talking about, his best friend just waited for him.
"Okay, okay. just hurry up. At least look at the street."
Being impatient since the street light color is about to change, his best friend walked back in hopes to drag Seth over to the other side. But before he could, tragedy befell him.
*SKREEEEE..... BOOM...!*
"Seth! Seth! Seth!"
A speedy truck hit him while crossing the street as he was staring at his phone. Before he could pass out, his friend's silhouette was the last image he could see. He then let out a big cough as broken words were spoken from his mouth.
Being held by his saddened friend, he said, "The truth is... I really hate this stupid auto-battle game. What a shallow and short human life... I have."
