First Kill

Spending most of the day resting I heard a knock on my door. Opening it to see Josento and Mina looking worried. I assured them, "I'll be fine.".

Putting on my black cloak and my helmet I turned toward them. The helmet hid my hair and face. Josento looked a little intimidated. I asked, "What's wrong?".

He answered, "Nothing at all. The only thing you can see is your red eyes that practically glow in the eyeholes.".

Mina agreed, "You would be the last person I would want to run into in a dark alley.".

Hearing that made my confidence grow in the mission. Josento gave me some advice, "After you get in, locate the target and kill him fast but escape faster.".

While talking Saikeya walked through the front door and walked over to my room. He had a letter in his hand. He handed it to me and said, "This is the invitation for the auction. Get there a few minutes early and get the job done.".

After saying his part he left and had Josento and Mina follow him. Leaving me alone I just sat down and prepared myself for the mission. Around ten I grabbed my sword and hid it inside my cloak and made my way to the auction. Walking down the street toward the nobles living quarters I noticed everyone who was out and about looked terrified as I walked past. They all started moving closer to alleyways and buildings. I was getting closer to Edwen's mansion near the front of the noble quarters.

Stopping at the door I knocked and waited for a few minutes before a small boy opened the door and asked shakily, "How may I help you?".

I handed him the letter and his eyes darkened as he gestured for me to follow him. He led me into the lounge area and pulled a book in the bookcase that opened a secret door leading downward. He pointed toward the candle sitting on the table so I picked it up and entered the stairwell. Heading down the stairs took about two minutes until I ran into another door. Knocking on this one a small slit opened and a gruff sounding man asked, "Are you here for the auction?".

I just nodded and stuck the letter up to the opening. After looking it over he finally opened the door. Upon entering I noticed around a hundred people already present. Looking around while slowly stalking through the crowd I couldn't find Edwen anywhere. I noticed a line of masked nobles waiting to go into another room. Getting closer I noticed cages of young boys and girls lining the walls. Seeing this enraged me. How am I supposed to just execute my target and leave them here?

A few seconds later someone pulled on my sleeve. Turning I noticed three people and I knew exactly who they were. Josento, Yukiko, and Mina were behind me. Josento whispered, "Leave the kids to us. Edwen is sitting at the table at the far right of the stage.".

They quickly went past me and continued on their way. Making my way towards Edwen I slipped one hand into my cloak and waited till he was in sight. Around twenty feet from the table I finally got a glance of him. His disgustingly greasy hair and his bulbous body. I took a deep breath and drew my sword. Vibrating it so it hummed a slight melody before finally running full speed aiming for his throat or where it should be.

Moving the fastest possible speed I could, weaving through the crowd around him as carefully as possible. Moving at high speeds in a compact space is more difficult than anyone can imagine. Making sure to keep my sword from hitting the bystanders I finally got through the crowd and swung full force at his neck feeling the blade cut through his fat. Moving at high speeds makes it easier to cut through almost anything but to me the feeling of cutting his head off just felt wrong.

After slicing all the way through I sped toward the exit and opened the door and closed it behind me. Quickly leaving the house and making my way back to the academy I hid my helmet and cloak in my closet before laying down. An hour later I heard multiple people enter the house. Mina opened the door and walked in and just sat next to me. Josento started the conversation, "We got all the kids out safe. Yukiko turned into the head of security and escorted them out under fake orders. Everyone was swearing they could hear a creepy melody playing for a split second.".

Apparently it took ten minutes to notice Edwen was assassinated. His head stayed in place and no blood had leaked out of the cut because of the speed and precision. Mina asked, "Are you okay?".

I didn't answer, I just sat there. Josento and Yukiko just nodded and left the room in understanding. After they walked out I just hugged Mina and started shaking. A few minutes went by before I finally spoke, "Just the feeling of my sword slicing through his neck made me feel sick but I had to do it. The crimes he committed can never be forgiven. Taking children from their families and selling them to sick nobles who do who knows what to them.".

I finished speaking and Mina just squeezed me tighter. She stated, "We will be killing more from now on and all of them are criminals either the same as Edwen or worse. It is for the betterment of the kingdom.".

I told Mina to give me some time alone. She left the room with a saddened look on her face. Getting up to move over to my desk I sat down and pulled out a journal. I started writing down what I felt killing him and after the kill to keep my mind steady. I hid the journal with my helmet and cloak. Bringing out my sword I got the cleaning kit and started polishing the sword even though there was no blood residue. I just sat at my desk thinking for the rest of the night.
