Inside a small town of Wers, Virginia. A small rested yet troubled home that stayed in a peaceful neighborhood, or so residents think. It was the type of home that, from the outside looking in, it appeared no different than any other. A white picked fence, beige siding with a dark blue roof, like most homes are. However, something dark was held in these walls.
The head of the household, Jerome Hills, was a bullhead stern man who didn't take any type of attitude from anyone, especially from his older son, Victor Hills. His wife, Cheryl Hills, learned to bite her tongue and offer no objections to the things her husband has done or will do, even if it was lawful or not. This included many times when Jerome lost his temper and took it out on his oldest son, when she's not there to substitute her self instead.
It was a late Friday night, Victor was sitting in the room that he shared with his five year old brother, Patrick Hills. Victor turned his gaze away the TV to Patrick who fell asleep watching Scooby-Doo. It was a habit for Patrick to fall asleep during a show or a movie, mostly because he was five and Victor was twelve. Victor decided to go to the bathroom from drinking all that soda at dinner, he felt like he drank a whole liter. When he was done, he stopped half way when he heard his father and another man talking. The curious twelve year old, went over to the stairs and sat at the top so he could listen in.
"So, what would I get out of this?" He heard his father ask in a curious, though apprehensive tone, this made the other man let out a forced chuckle.
"Freedom, money, power. What more can you ask for? All you have to do is grab the bull by its horns and bam!" It was silent for a brief moment, Victor could see his father cross his arms, he was clearly contemplating something of a great importance.
"Deal." Jerome responded in a stern tone, the man let out a laugh, that almost sounded maniacally.
"Then consider it done. After this you'll be the leader of the gang, according to boss." This caused Victor to widened his eyes as he heard the man's words. His father is in a gang? Now he'll be the leader of it? Victor let out a gasp, he covered his mouth realizing that he's blown his cover. He hoped his father and the man didn't hear him.
"What was that?" The strange man asked Jerome, who let out a deep and irritated sigh.
"Excuse me, while I go take care of this." Jerome said, this caused Victor to go in high alert mode. Jerome started to climb the stairs, by this point Victor started running to his parents bedroom where he knew his mom would be. Cheryl who was sound asleep, was waken up by Victor jumping on the bed and shaking her shoulder.
"Mom! Wake up!" Cheryl looked at her son who was about to be in tears.
"Vic? Honey, what's going on?" Cheryl asked as she got her blonde and brown hair out of her face, but before she could get an answer from Victor, Jerome stomped into the room. He glared at his son while gritting his teeth and pointed his finger at his son.
"I thought I told you boys, to stay in your bedroom?!"
"I had to go to the bathroom, I heard someone else in the house and got curious." Victor explained, who hid behind his mother.
"Too curious for your own good, I'll tell you that. I'll teach you to mind your own business." Jerome marched forward to grab Victor's arm and started puling him. This caused Victor to look back at his mom for help but got nothing, little did he know that would've been the last time he saw his mother alive. Jerome dragged him to the kids bedroom and threw him in, not caring if he got hurt or not. "Now stay in there if you know what's best for you."
Jerome walked out of the room slamming the door behind him, this caused Patrick to wake up. Victor groaned and pressed his ear to their door. He heard his father walking back down the stairs.
"Trouble in paradise, Hills?" Victor somehow heard the man, Jerome grunted. In a way, Jerome wish he didn't have to deal with his family. Somehow, the strange man could read his mind, and pulled out a gun.
"It's all you have to do then you'd be the leader." Jerome took the gun from the man and cocked it. He heard his father come back up, thinking he was coming back up for him, Victor back away from the door and pulled Patrick behind him. They waited for him to barge into the room, but that never happened. A loud bang and the sound of the front door is what happened.
Victor frowned and opened his door, he was confused on why their father hasn't come done anything to them. The two brother's headed toward where they heard the gunshot, it lead them to their parent's master bedroom. What they saw, made them gasp and Patrick cry, it was his mother, but not alive.
"Pat, we've got to go now. Mom said if anything happens to her, we have to run." Victor turn them around and back to their bedroom. They had backpacks already packed for events like this, mostly because their mother knew this day would come.
"But we can't leave mom like this. We have to help her." This made Victor drown in guilt because he knew he couldn't do anything, she just told them to run.
"We can't Pat, we have to run before dad gets back. This is what she wanted us to do, now let's do just that." Victor grabbed Patrick's hand and went to get the backpacks that where hidden under the bed.
"Wait, I can't forget Mr. Bear." Victor watched as Patrick raced to the bed to grab the sandy teddy bear. It was a gift from their mother passed down from the family, Victor had it for a while till he found it weird for a twelve year old to sleep with a teddy bear so he gave it to Patrick who couldn't sleep without it.
"We'll climb out the window so dad won't see us, if he's out there." Patrick nodded and climb out after his brother onto the vines that where on the side of the window. Victor held out his arms for his little brother to jump in, he hesitated before he did it. They started walking without knowing their destination, hours later they where on an empty bridge, well that was until a black BMW VBX6. The driver rolled his window down, he looked innocent but as well as sinful.
"What are you two young kids doing out this late at night?" The man asked.
"Walking." Victor said with a bit of sass as they continued walking and the black BMW followed them. "What do you want?"
"Kid, I know what your going threw."
"No, you don't know what we're going threw! Now, leave us alone."
"I do kid, your father shot your mom. The whole town basically knows by now. How about this, you come with me and I can protect you and your brother."
"How?" The man's eyes flickered to the backseat.
"Hop in the back." Victor looked down at Patrick conflicted on what he should do but was surprise when Patrick nodded his head, it's really hard for Patrick to trust someone and make friends, due to his father. This made Victor sigh in defeat and nodded his head for Patrick to get in, him following in.
"So, have you kids ever heard of gangs?"
