Powers

The wind outside was very strong and cold. Snowflakes would fall on their skin from time to time. Su Su's parents' hair was messy, and their faces and hands were red because of the cold. Their bodies were also covered in blood. They were dirty, messy, and smelly. However, the expressions on their faces were so happy, as if what they were holding in their hands were not resources, but precious treasures.

Su Su felt like crying, and her heart ached. She lowered her head and took some of the vegetables in her mother's arms, then turned around and went into the kitchen. Just as her parents moved the rest of the supplies into the kitchen, Su Su leaned against the wall as she said to her parents,

"Daddy, mommy, you don't need to look for water. I've activated my water power!"

As she said that, she took two glasses. Under her parents' surprised gaze, she performed a magic trick. The two glasses in Su Su's hands were filled with water immediately. Su Su could not do it alone. The simplest thing was that she had placed solar panels in her basement. She did not know how to install them, so she had to discuss it with her father. Su Su's mother did not realize that she had awakened her wood power. While searching for supplies with Su Su's father, they discussed how Su Su's father got the rock. They were a little confused, but still planned to wait until they finished searching for supplies. Then, they would go home and find out about it.

Under the bright and warm lighting, Su Su nodded and decided to teach her parents about the classification of powers. She smiled and said, "This is our powers. Daddy, you and mommy study it first. I'll go upstairs and find a clean set of clothes for you. I'll also look for some science posts for you. I remember I saw it just now."

When Su Su finished her sentence, she had already filled the kettle with water and started boiling it. Then, without waiting for her parents to answer, Su Su went upstairs and entered her parents' bedroom. While searching for clean clothes for them, she quickly checked her phone and found a more reliable science post about the powers. She sent it to her father's cell phone.

There were many such posts on the internet. Many years before the apocalypse, someone had written about the possibility of powers being triggered. Without the science posts, one could still find some novels about powers being triggered. Su Su deliberately chose a paragraph that was similar to the eschatology system of humans in the future. She simplified it and sent it to Su Su's father.

Initially, Su Su wanted to wait for her parents to finish reading before comforting them. However, when she was lying on the balcony on the second floor, Su Su felt sleepy after being blown by the heater.

She was already in the early stages of pregnancy, and her body was feeling all sorts of discomfort. She braced herself and did not sleep. After running behind her parents for a whole day, even her eyelids felt heavy.

She lowered her head and saw that her parents were still holding their cell phones. They were in the living room discussing about powers. Thus, she did not urge her parents to clean themselves up. She only told her parents that she had found clean clothes for them. Then, she went back to her room to sleep. As for when her parents would take a bath and when they would go to bed, Su Su did not have the energy to care about that anymore.

Su Su's father had a lot of questions he wanted to ask Su Su, including his power and Su Su's water power. When he heard that Su Su was going to sleep, her father became anxious. Just as he was about to call Su Su to come down and explain things clearly, Su Su's mother pulled on his sleeve as she said in a low voice,

"Don't shout. Let your daughter have a good sleep. It must be hard for her today. Besides, this message says that people will feel tired after using their abilities!"

The phone in her mother's hand belonged to Su Su's father. She pointed at the post and slowly read it to her husband. When Su Su's father heard it, he thought that Su Su had just said that she would get some water for them. It meant that Su Su had used up her abilities, therefore, it was normal for her to feel sleepy.

Both of them did not suspect anything else. They went into the kitchen and turned off the gas. They found an empty bucket and cleaned themselves. Then, they went back to their room to change their clothes. As they discussed, they went to sleep without any worries.

They did not know how many hours they had slept. When Su Su woke up, it was already night time. She forced her eyelids open and looked at her wrist. The watch on her hand showed that it was only 3:00 a.m. Su Su lifted the quilt and got up, she walked barefoot to her parents' bedroom and opened a crack in the door. She found that her parents had already fallen asleep. Judging from the sound of their breathing, they seemed to be in a deep sleep.

Su Su smiled and raised her hand to secretly turn on the heater for her parents. Perhaps Su Su's parents wanted to save some natural gas because the end of the world had arrived. They turned off the heater that they always turned on when they slept every night. They even turned off all the heaters, and the entire villa was very cold.

Su Su frowned and turned on all the heaters in the villa. Then, she went to the basement and took out several plastic basins of various sizes as she placed them all in the kitchen. After that, she added water into the basins because she was afraid that she would wake up too late the next day. Su Su's mother would not have clean water to wash and cook the vegetables.

She did not know if her parents would go out after daybreak. Su Su looked at the time. It had only been an hour, and the sky was not yet bright. She thought about it and went back to her room to change into a comfortable set of clothes. She put on a jacket, took the car keys, and drove out.

Her parents had to take care of her during the day. On the first day of the apocalypse, Su Su did not find Zhuo Shijia. Although it was midnight now, it was already the end of the world. What was the point of fussing about day and night? Su Su drove all the way to the entrance of the Apple Villa area. Just as she was about to open the door, the door opened by itself.
