Apocalypse Academy

In the bustling corridors of a once-thriving high school, an ordinary group of students find themselves thrust into an extraordinary nightmare. As they navigate the treacherous waters of adolescence, they are suddenly faced with a cataclysmic event that will redefine their lives forever: a zombie apocalypse. Now, their once familiar hallways echo with the haunting groans of the undead, their classrooms transformed into battlegrounds of survival. With no adults to rely on and the world crumbling around them, this diverse group of students must band together, drawing strength from their differences, to defy the odds and fight for their very existence. As the days turn into weeks, and the weeks into months, the students confront not only the relentless hordes of zombies but also their own fears, doubts, and personal demons. Amidst this harsh new reality, they discover hidden skills, untapped courage, and unbreakable bonds of friendship. But the relentless threat of the undead is not their only challenge. As they scavenge for supplies, seek refuge, and search for a way to be rescued, the students encounter other survivors, some benevolent and others with dark intentions. Trust becomes a scarce commodity in this post-apocalyptic landscape, where alliances must be forged with caution and betrayal lurks around every corner. As the weight of their experiences and the horrors they endure mount, these young heroes begin to question not only the nature of the undead menace but also the very essence of their humanity. Can they hold onto compassion and morality when faced with the bleak reality of a world devoid of order and hope?

CH. 8 The last friend

Quinn didn't understand what was happening, he had taken cover and had made sure to keep Emily below him as he covered her with his body, Alen on the other hand had just witnessed the soldier gun down a student in cold blood, from the very beginning this rescue seemed to good to be true and now he knew he was right.

The red-haired girl, quickly withdrew as she found cover from the hail of bullets, the undead that were coming in droves from the entrance all trying to reach the roof and devour everyone were getting mauled down by bullets from a machine gun, the deafening roar of the gun and the gentle clicking sound from the shells filled the air.

The smell of gunpowder and death took control of the roof instantly, the soldiers focused their fire on the entrance to the roof, while using suppressive fire on the last student trying to keep her from approaching the aircraft, while the sunkissed girl had reached the craft safely, one of the soldiers offered her a hand as she got on board the vessel.

"Stop firing, let them have her" The girl, commanded, and just like that the sounds of gun firing stopped and were quickly replaced by the roars and growls of the undead,

Alen desperate to save the red-haired girl, shut everything around him out and focused on what he needed to save this girl, to him right now, the dead on the other roof was a timer, rapidly counting down to his deadline. His goal is to save the girl.

His goal had changed, his initial calculation of the distance between the buildings still in his head, although the two buildings were close it was still much for a person to jump, so what? what could he use to cover the distance or at least reduce it, if the girl was to meet them halfway through then? a smile crept up on his face and a newfound energy surged through his body.

Alen whispered something to Quinn before making an exit fit for a thief, time was of the essence and he could not afford to waste it trying to convince his friend about the plan in his head, he just hoped Quinn trusted him enough to go through with it.

he went down the stairs taking them three at a time careful not to slip on the blood right now his head ran numbers and possible outcomes that everything else disappeared, the threat of the undead took a back corner of his mind, while his plan controlled his body. Without hesitation he stared at the building next door, making sure to align the windows with the girl's position or at least one favorable to her.

The windows on the halls weren't the opening type, the school had ACs everywhere so these windows were here for decoration rather than anything else, Alen charged at a nearby class making sure there were no surprises for him, he picked a table and lifted it in the air and hauled it at the window, to anyone watching he might have looked like a child tossing a wooden table.

His physic wasn't the greatest but he had strength when it counted, and his goal wasn't to win the furthest table toss in the world, he made good with the strength he had as the table had shattered the glass completely, but now, there was another timer the sound of the glass breaking had alerted some of the undead close enough to hear it.

The shuttered glass was also used as a signal for a certain individual on the roof, he had kept staring at the floor below waiting to see which of the windows shattered, while the sound of muffled bullets filled the air, the red-haired girl trying her best to hold out the horde of undead fighting to get through the door, and she was thankful of that because if for whatever reason they figured out how to come through the door one at a time.

Well that would spell the end for her, from the corner of her view she could see something a figure wiggling about on a roof like an inflated tube man ballon dancing in front of a gas station, she could hear muffled yells as well but she couldn't make out the context of what was being said, everything seemed to be taken by the wind and the rest muffled by the growling and groaning of the undead.

But she could see a broken window a few floors below, her face turned beat red from the heat.

'this idiot thinks I'm stupid enough to make that jump' she cursed under her breath, but she didn't have many options, if she was going to die, better to fall to her death than live for a while to experience what it feels like to have your skin and flesh ripped from the bones, she hosted her weapon behind her back, the rogue hair getting in the way of her view, but she didn't have time to tie it to a ponytail or try to get it out of the way.

the undead at the door had topped over leaving room for the ones behind them to climb over and make it through the door, charging like a starved beast hungry for a taste of food or anything that looks edible really.

"Fuck!" the girl cursed as she took off running, her legs moving like well-oiled machines, in this situation, she felt like nothing else would be better, nothing else would save her life.

the adrenaline filled her system like a stream of water invading everything that was her, fuelled by the alien energy in her body the girl could hear her heart beating like drums signaling an invasion. she took off running to the edge of the rooftop ready to try and make the jump to the other building the undead hot of her tail.

The red-haired girl, her face a mix of determination and fear, gathered her strength. The undead closed in, their hungry moans echoing in her ears. With a deep breath, she sprinted towards the edge and launched herself into the air.

Time seemed to slow as the distance between the rooftops became both her enemy and her salvation. The undead beneath her roared, reaching up as if trying to snatch her from the air. The wind whistled past her ears, and for a moment, she felt weightless.

On the other rooftop, Quinn caught sight of the daring leap. He couldn't help but hold his breath, unsure if the plan would succeed. Emily, still beneath him, watched with wide eyes, her small hands gripping Quinn's jacket.

Alen, positioned on the broken window's ledge, prepared to swing the fire hose across the gap as soon as the red-haired girl was in mid-air. His eyes locked onto her, focusing on every detail of her trajectory.

As she reached the peak of her jump, Alen swung the fire hose with all his strength. However, a puddle of blood near the window made the ledge slippery. Alen's foot slipped slightly, and for a heart-stopping moment, it seemed as if the plan might falter.

The red-haired girl, mid-air, narrowly missed the swinging hose. Panic flickered across her face as she realized she might fall short. But in a stroke of luck or fate, she extended her hand and, against all odds, caught the fire hose mid-air.

She banged her body against the side of the other building, the impact jarring through her. The wind was knocked out of her, and for a moment, she clung to the fire hose, her body dangling precariously.

Quinn's heart raced as he watched the unexpected turn of events. Emily gasped, her eyes wide with concern.

Alen, recovering from the slip, quickly assessed the situation. He pulled the fire hose taut, providing the red-haired girl with a lifeline to climb onto the rooftop. The tension in the air shifted from uncertainty to a collective exhale of relief as she climbed through the window, the strength in her body escaping her causing it to buckle and fall ontop of Alen, her messy tied hair danced to the wind as she tried to force air into her lungs.

she had hold her breath scared of the bitter fall that awaited her, her desperation had paid off but that was cutting way to close for comfort
