Chapter 7: Enlightenment

Following the small small group, David observes his surroundings.

Apparently, the room he was just in was located in some kind of medieval castle.

He gawks at the rustic yet grand construct, marveling at the novelty of the situation.

"...This would've been a great tourist experience if I wasn't going to get thrown into a battlefield" David remarked.

If it hasn't been obvious by now, it would seem that this otherwise horrifying experience would tremble most…and unfortunately, David is no exception.

His constant sarcastic remarks as well as his nonchalant, let-them-have-a-go-at-me attitude had been a combination of certain factors.

His usual perpetually stoic, cool face came in clutch as when shit hits the fan, it would seem to freeze in time, giving off a confident, ice cold vibe. His constant remarks and inability to stay still was his coping mechanism inorder to deal with stress, always trying to break the atmosphere and in a way, make himself feel like he's in charge.

David had never been an extrovert, and thus, when forced into a situation where he must make direct contact with another, he tries desperately to make himself comfortable, whether to scout for a fellow kindred or to find something interesting to divert his attention to.

In the language of the Discovery Channel,

"When in danger, young David either flocks to his fellow mammals, or he will bury his head into the sand, in hopes of avoiding the predator's vision."

Exiting the building, David left the dramp corridors, walking past groups of soldiers and servants around the place.

On the way, he can't help but to notice some brown and black spots on the walls and ground, as well as certain scratches and crevices too large to be done by a human.

Walking for a few minutes, turning right and left. The entourage arrived at a huge open area filled with other children of various ages and colors.

The lone soldier then walked to a huge man, saying something before he turned and left.

Wasting no time,

Perspiring at the difference in stats, David inspected the surrounding soldiers to find the average stat to be around 8-9 with the highest stat generally being Strength and Life.

Satisfied with the expertise of the man he assumed to be their future instructor, David continued inspecting the people going in and out, as well as the kids that were going to be his future comrades.

It is often said that the world is full of hidden crouching tigers and mysteries. Unwilling to be another naively arrogant Isekai protagonist, David was determined to find something interesting or out of place. Intending to place himself into the most favorable position in preparation for the grim future.

Who knows if he would suddenly offend a passing young master, enraged by his handsome visage or even because he sneezed too suddenly, causing the said young master to shit his pants. The future is full of uncertainties and danger, for there is always a mountain higher or an ocean deeper. A beggar of today can be a mysterious expert tomorrow.

The young David is too pure and kind for this cruel world…or at least that's what he thought.

As David was busy with his thoughts, he seemed to have turned off his passive skill 'Facade', as his face cycled from a frown into a helpless expression, into an off putting smirk, shaking and nodding his head at times.

This anomaly was only noticed by a few which included a certain malnourished maiden who decided that her next action was for a better cause.

Kannette walked past our lovely protagonist, sacrificing the purity of her other foot, she seemed to have gained enlightenment as halfway through the kick, it appeared to have gained an indescribable amount of momentum, cutting through time and space, decisively slamming into David's other shin.

The sound of a butchered pig could be heard, echoing throughout the cold walls of the castle.
