"She is not leaving alpha." Mesalla challenged me.
"She is dangerous pup. She may be your mate and she may be my sister but.." Roman paused a bit "she certainly cannot be trusted. So stop the theatrics and pull your tail in."
Mesalla growled. "More like how you cannot be trusted right?"
"Roman faces the same threat as us. We have no reason to distrust him right now Mesalla." I assured him.
I didn't expect it, but Joseph stepped in too. "Son, in as much as this is important to you and all of us, she is the enemy and maybe you should let her go."
"Father remember when you told me I would understand?" Mesalla asked.
Joseph nodded.
"Well now I do. So don't do this."
Our guests this whole time just stood there, waiting for their fates to be decided. It seemed so deliberate for me and that in itself made me distrust them more.
'Restrain him please.' I asked Roman via mindlink because I knew he was the best shot at being able to hold Mesalla down.
'With pleasure.' Roman responded with excitement.
Within a second, Roman was standing behind Mesalla already holding his hands together at his back. Mesalla growled, his wolf was at bay but that didn't worry me because I knew that if it came to that, Roman's wolf is bigger and stronger and that would be a short fight.
"Let me go." Mesalla demanded.
Ignoring him, I said out, "Take them to the cells."
Otis nodded in response and with surprise on my part, the two guests did not fight it. All they did was follow the pack members whom Otis directed to see through the task to where they were being led.
It made me suspicious.
Mesalla tried hard to break free, Otis stayed close by just in case the situation would get out of control. But Mesalla didn't turn into his wolf, he did try to fight his way out of Roman's grip but to no avail.
'Round one, alpha win, beta lose.' Otis said in my mind with a laugh right after. I looked down trying to hide my grin.
When the guests were finally out of sight, Roman let go of Mesalla who just walked away without a look back at any of us.
"Great job you handed me alpha." Roman said with enthusiasm.
I shook my head in amusement.
Roman and I silently walked back to my house and when we got there, he finally broke the silence.
"I'm sorry I left so quickly this morning. I had to be home for my father's arrival." He explained.
"That's alright." I lied. "How is he?" I asked in an attempt to make small talk.
"He is okay. A little worried though."
"Nali?"
"Turns out my mother's death is on her hands. That's why he left."
I felt a shiver down my spine.
"I'm sorry about your mum."
He nodded.
I guess there was nothing to talk about there. Death was already a sore topic, it would be a horrible idea to duscuss how we lost our loved ones.
"Hungry?" I asked changing the dark topic.
"A little." He replied.
"I will make something."
The rest of the afternoon was fleetingly slow. I spent most of the time in my dads office looking over stuff while Roman went for a run then when back, watched tv.
I thought a lot about how having him here made it feel homely for me. I never once felt like that when Mesalla came over, maybe because it was wrong from the beginning to have him over considering the kind of relationship we developed.
"Hey." Roman set himself on the chair next to me. He looked like he was new from a shower and a change.
"Hey." I replied.
"I have a proposition for you." He suggested.
"Shoot." I turned to listen.
"I have a good friend. He has a pack on the south side. About 500 if I am not mistaken. Maybe I can have a chat with him, see if he is willing to lend a hand if things don't get so bright for us."
"You think he might agree?" I asked worriedly. If he was Roman's friend, maybe it wouldn't hurt to ask.
"There's only one way to find out." He said pointing at his cell.
"Let's do it."
He smiled.
I almost melted just looking at him smile. His eyes that were strikingly blue stang me so much I thought it blinding. His dark hair falling in bits on his forehead made me imagine grabbing on it in the most calm and also most rough way.
Oh and his lips. I don't know how I could resist those till now.
I found myself fantasizing and right now, I was glad he left the room to make that call or he'd know exactly what was on my mind.
As he spoke to his friend, I decided to do a short research on him. Wouldn't hurt.
Roman told me his name was Bryan and from the rest of what I got, he was aged 28, unmated and unmarried. He had a great pack and of course big in number.
"We will have dinner tomorrow." Roman said interrupting my short research.
"Great!" I said with a smile. "Do you feel hungry?"
"I think I'm good actually." He responded.
I equally didn't feel like food. So I figured I should head to bed.
"You can pick any guest room you like. I"ll be in my room if you need anything." He nodded in agreement.
"Good night Roman." I told him and turned to walk away.
"Arlene?" He said in an asking tone.
"Yes?" I said turning back to look at him.
He didn't say anything, he just walked towards me and it scared me. I kept thinking, 'run'. Because I saw his eyes, and I knew what he wanted to do, I wanted him to do it.
And he did. I tried to step back but he only stepped closer and when he got the closest, he placed his hands on my cheeks. His eyes grew darker, smaller, he looked right into mine and stepped so close there was no space inbetween our bodies. I simply stayed still and tried to look down, but he pulled my chin back up. I felt a tear drop and he wiped it off my cheek.
His lips closed in on mine, and pressed on them. I loosened up, softening them and moving them a little.
His lips grew harder on me, moving and obviously asking for entrance. I granted it without wasting a second. Now our tongues were gliding together. It felt magical, like a first kiss.
I don't know how long it took, but sense ripped through me and I quickly pulled away. My tears kept falling down my eyes so I ran, right up to my room and locked the door.
Roman ran after me and tried to open the door.
"Arly I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to do that."
I lay on my bed trying to ignore his words. He was getting into my head, Roman was penetrating every part of me -well almost- and I didn't like it.
He kept apologizing and I kept ignoring him. He knocked hard, apologized then went silent. I don't know how long he did that until I fell asleep.
At 03am, I woke up realising I had passed out, and my light was still on.
I walked out of my room to check on Roman and found him sprawled on the passage floor next to my room.
I felt so guilty so I quickly got a blanket and covered us both as I lay next to him.
Much later when it was bright out, I found myself in bed with him next to me.
I got up, took a shower and when I got out, he wasn't in bed anymore.
I went downstairs to make breakfast and waited for him to come down.
"Good morning." He said to me after a little while.
"Good morning." I said smiling back at him.
We let the morning run by without words. The looks between us were enough to say that we were learning to get along despite everything that was against us.
"Why exactly are you getting comfortable in my house?" I asked him later that afternoon. "Don't you have a pack to run?"
"I do. But you're my mate, and you're in danger and I have Drew to handle pack business." He shrugged.
I ignored it. "Do we really have to go out to meet him? I hate eating out. Plus, I could cook better food."
"As much as I would loveee to taste your yummy meals, Bryan is a formal man, and to keep this proposal formal we might have to do this." He replied.
When it was finally 6pm, Roman and I got dressed up and ready to go.
I tried to look as formal as possible. I wore a long formal dress that hugged my curves, a white pearl necklace that matched my ear rings, a pair of sandal heels and a little bit of make up.
Roman on the other hand had to rush into town to get something formal to wear, which was a suit that looked absolutely stunning on him. It felt like we were dressed up for an actual date. A first date.
"You're beautiful."Roman said to me looking like he was losing his breath.
I blushed in response.
"Shall we?" He asked me.
I nodded in agreement.
