Boom!
Su Sheng tossed the female soldier onto a table far from Laura before turning around and leaving.
What just happened?
Laura was stunned for a moment, then slowly tried to stand and approach the soldier. But as soon as she got up, the sound of footsteps startled her, and she immediately shrank back like a frightened bird.
The door creaked open again, and Su Sheng entered, holding the Lasso of Truth. He searched the female soldier's uniform before binding her and tossing her onto the floor. The uniform was carefully prepared—no identifying marks or anything to reveal her true identity.
Hmm, the female soldier groaned as she began to wake up, her eyes immediately meeting the embarrassed gaze of Laura. "You're Silk Spectre, Laura? Don't worry, I'm here to save you!"
Laura remained silent.
Save me? How can you possibly save me?
"By the way, why didn't you take the opportunity to escape? The door was unlocked," Su Sheng asked Laura, curious.
Laura didn't respond.
Even if she managed to escape and return to the United States, how could she face her mother and the Comedian? What he did to her mother filled Laura with hatred, but... he was also her father. The complex and contradictory emotions left her paralyzed, unable to make a decision, so she avoided it.
So she stayed.
Su Sheng asked casually, then quickly shifted his focus back to the female soldier.
The poor woman tried to use her powers to break free from the rope. Transformation was easy, but breaking free? Impossible! The Lasso of Truth is not something one can escape from easily.
Speaking of which, Diana has become the new God of War, so the influence of the Lasso of Truth on her should be negligible, right? Su Sheng shook his head slightly, realizing his previous concerns were unfounded. Otherwise, he wouldn't have thought of her after all this time.
"What's your name?" Su Sheng asked the female soldier with a smile.
"Emily... Emily Song," she replied, her voice filled with fear and resistance.
"And your identity?"
"Code name: Element Girl, affiliated with the CIA."
"Element Girl? Do they know about your abilities? How did you get them?" Su Sheng continued.
Emily Song spoke slowly, with clear reluctance.
She was originally just an ordinary CIA agent, but later participated in the government's secret "M Project" and gained her abilities. Afterward, she took on more specialized and dangerous missions for the CIA. Such government experiments are not uncommon in the Marvel and DC universes. What intrigued Su Sheng was that the origins of this experimental project were actually tied to the Justice Society!
The Justice Society was formed during World War II and consisted of members like Hawkman, Commander Steel, Obsidian, Stargirl, Doctor Mid-Nite, and Vixen. In 1956, most of the members participated in a mission and were killed, leading to the disbandment of the Justice Society. But in reality, Vixen joined the second camp's Legends, while the others were sent to different eras to protect fragments of the Spear of Destiny.
Although the Justice Society disbanded, research related to them continued.
The goal was to grant ordinary people superpowers!
According to Element Girl, the experiment's success rate was very low, but she was considered a success.
"You?"
Emily Song stared blankly at Su Sheng, who was now unbinding the strange ropes that held her. She couldn't quite grasp the situation.
"You came to rescue her? Then take her and leave!" Su Sheng said casually.
Emily Song looked at Su Sheng, puzzled. He was really going to let them go? Seeing that Su Sheng didn't seem to be joking, she turned to Laura and said, "Let's go."
Laura didn't move.
Emily Song assumed Laura was injured or too weak to move and reached out to help her.
But Laura recoiled from her touch.
"You..." Emily Song looked at Laura, baffled.
Laura shook her head slightly. "Thank you for risking yourself to save me, but... I'm not ready to leave."
"Are you insane? If you don't leave, do you want to stay here and be tortured by him?" Emily Song asked in disbelief.
Laura was silent for a moment before shaking her head again. "I need to stay and figure things out."
"You're really not leaving?"
Laura shook her head.
"Fine!" Emily Song turned to Su Sheng. "She's staying; can I leave?"
"Of course!" Su Sheng pointed to the door.
Emily Song didn't hesitate. She left immediately.
As she exited the basement and realized Su Sheng truly wasn't stopping her, Emily Song carefully left the villa. Her mind raced as she hurried back to report Su Sheng's situation to her superiors. This man could copy other people's abilities instantly, without needing time to master them, and could wield them even more powerfully than the original users.
Such a person was too dangerous!
She needed to figure out exactly how his powers worked and how to control them!
Emily Song left the Soviet Union as quickly as possible and returned to the United States, where she reported to the Central Intelligence Agency's director. However, instead of receiving orders to take action, she was imprisoned. The reason? Some suspected she had failed her mission and spread false information, with a high likelihood of having been compromised.
It sounds absurd, right?
But some people couldn't believe that Laura would choose to stay after being kidnapped and tortured. Nor could they believe in someone like Su Sheng, who could copy abilities instantly and use them even more effectively than the original owner. If such a person existed, there would surely be some clues, right? And what was this about lighting up and compelling the truth? It sounded like a fantasy.
Most importantly, Emily Song couldn't explain why Su Sheng didn't kill her or silence her but instead let her go so easily.
In the tense atmosphere of the Cold War, Emily Song's inability to explain or prove her story, coupled with her sensitive status, led to her being imprisoned for further investigation.
Emily Song felt deeply wronged. Under normal circumstances, even if Su Sheng didn't kill her, he would have at least kept her quiet for the sake of secrecy. But Su Sheng didn't play by the rules.
Su Sheng hadn't meant to deceive her—he just didn't care about keeping secrets.
What if someone found out?
At worst, he could just copy a few more abilities!
