Samantha Arias knelt on one knee, eyes filled with reverence and devotion. The fervor in her expression made Su Sheng raise an eyebrow in mild surprise.
"Master, great Holy Spirit," she uttered in a voice filled with worship.
Indigo, standing beside Su Sheng, grinned. "This is your most loyal servant, the Worldkiller, Master!" she said proudly.
Su Sheng chuckled, amused by how easily Indigo had orchestrated this. "What am I supposed to say?"
"Every word you speak is a holy blessing to her," Indigo replied, her tone playful yet respectful.
"Amazing," Su Sheng remarked. Indigo had essentially created a god from nothing, using time and changing circumstances to shape an entire mythology. Even after Krypton's destruction, she had nurtured a devout following for a deity that had never even existed—until now. Su Sheng was genuinely impressed.
He glanced down at the ring Indigo had slipped onto his finger. "And this? What is it?"
"This is the symbol of the Holy Spirit," Indigo explained. "It's crafted from a special Kryptonian stone called Hal-El. It has the power to awaken the Worldkiller, bringing her full potential to life. On Krypton, this stone was known as the Stone of Yudakar. Yudakar was the goddess born after you, the goddess of life."
Su Sheng smiled. "This is black kryptonite, isn't it?" He could sense the change in Samantha's cellular structure now that she was fully awakened. The personality of Samantha Arias, the ordinary woman, had split, revealing her true self—the Worldkiller.
Using his X-ray vision, Su Sheng examined Samantha's body. Her cells now closely resembled those of a Kryptonian.
"This is the real Worldkiller," Su Sheng murmured with interest. "Fascinating. Do you have any more black kryptonite?"
"If Master wishes, I can find more," Indigo replied with a smile.
Su Sheng glanced at Samantha. "Rise."
Without hesitation, Samantha stood, her eyes gleaming with loyalty.
"You can leave for now," Su Sheng commanded.
"Yes, Master," Samantha responded before shooting into the sky with a powerful burst of speed.
Su Sheng waved his hand, releasing a shockwave. "Let's go," he said to Indigo. "I want to hear the full story back at the apartment."
In the apartment, Su Sheng settled onto the sofa with a bottle of wine. Indigo began to explain as he took a sip.
"The Worldkiller isn't purely Kryptonian," Indigo began. "It's the product of genetic fusion. In ancient Krypton, long before they began cultivating offspring in birthing matrices, they experimented with other means. I used Krypton's advanced technology from the future, particularly the knowledge of the birthing matrices, to create equations that could produce a being like the Worldkiller. I then passed this knowledge down through the generations."
"Knowledge is power," Su Sheng mused, impressed by Indigo's thoroughness. "So, you've been supporting Samantha Arias in my name, but it was you who awakened her to become the Worldkiller?"
"No," Indigo corrected. "This is the first time I've fully awakened her, but it's not the first time she's assumed the role of Worldkiller. That part was out of my control. Aren't you curious who first brought the Worldkiller to Earth, and who triggered her transformation?"
Su Sheng pondered. "With the disappearance of Kryptonian gods and the collapse of their civilization, remnants of their methods and technology could have survived. You passed down the knowledge of creating a Worldkiller. Someone must have used that method to bring her to Earth. But Krypton has already exploded, so that person must be here on Earth, right?"
Indigo nodded. "That's a possibility, but it doesn't seem right. The Worldkiller arrived on Earth before Krypton's destruction, meaning the person responsible was likely still on Krypton. If no one woke her up, would she have awakened on her own?"
"She might, but it would take time. And it wouldn't have been easy," Indigo replied. "From the signs I've seen, someone triggered her awakening."
"Interesting," Su Sheng said with a smile, finishing his wine. "If someone came to Earth with the Worldkiller, they would likely have revealed themselves by now. The fact that they haven't suggests they're using some remote method—maybe Kryptonian projection technology—to influence her awakening."
"But Krypton exploded," Indigo pointed out.
"Unless someone survived," Su Sheng concluded, smiling at the thought. "Superman always claims to be the last son of Krypton, but here's Supergirl. And now, there might be more Kryptonians out there, or even more Worldkillers. Krypton's destruction didn't mean total annihilation—there's still the bottled city of Kandor. If Brainiac preserved an entire city of Kryptonians, who's to say others didn't survive elsewhere?"
Su Sheng's mind buzzed with possibilities. Could there be more hidden survivors from Krypton? He decided to investigate further.
In the Disciple, Su Sheng analyzed the composition of the black kryptonite ring, curious about its unique properties. Using Indigo's abilities, he sent part of his consciousness to search the sky for traces of black kryptonite reactions. If someone had awakened the Worldkiller remotely, they would likely possess some form of black kryptonite.
Indigo reappeared, interrupting his thoughts. "Someone rang the doorbell of apartment 933—it's Siobhan Smythe."
"Oh?" Su Sheng asked. "Do you know what she wants?"
"I did some checking," Indigo responded. "Supergirl, or Kara Danvers, just resigned from CatCo Worldwide Media. Siobhan might be feeling optimistic about her chances."
"Kara resigned?" Su Sheng was surprised. Kara hadn't mentioned anything about quitting. CatCo held a lot of meaning for her, and she wouldn't have resigned lightly. There had been too much going on recently—Superman's Justice League and their Purge Plan, Cadmus' ongoing operations, and now the appearance of Zod.
"Leave her be. I'm not interested right now," Su Sheng decided, dismissing Siobhan's presence.
Siobhan called after no one opened the door, but Su Sheng didn't answer. Frustrated, she eventually left.
Later that evening, Su Sheng received a call from Lena Luthor. She had successfully arranged for him to visit the underground casino, where an alien fight was scheduled for that night.
"Perfect timing," Su Sheng murmured with a grin.
