Captain Adam Robert, William Stryker's trusted confidant, was in charge of the arrest operation. With a background in the Navy SEALs, he possessed extensive military knowledge, and his team consisted of special elite soldiers.

However, even though he was prepared to fight to the death when facing mutant elites like the X-Men, things went unexpectedly smoothly. Could it be that their own preparations were too sufficient?

Yet, under his gas mask, Adam Robert couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss.

"Captain, a mutant who was outside attempted to enter and rescue the others, but we took care of them," came the voice through his earpiece, offering a small sense of relief. After all, mission success was always a good thing.

Within sight, his team members wearing gas masks swiftly took action. They pulled out needles one by one and administered shots to Wolverine and the others to prevent any unexpected incidents. Dealing with mutants was familiar territory for them.

After double-checking, a subordinate approached to report, "Colonel, we've searched the area, but no targets were found"

"Damn it!"

Adam Robert cursed fiercely. He took out the special communicator he had on him and initiated a video call with William Stryker.

The connection went smoothly, and William Stryker's face appeared on the screen. "Adam, is the mission complete?"

"Yes, Colonel, but Professor X didn't show up"

Adam Robert felt a faint sense that something seemed off with the boss in the video, but he dutifully reported.

At the same time, he aimed the camera at the scene, allowing the other party to see clearly.

"It doesn't matter. If you capture the X-Men, you won't have to worry about finding an opportunity to lure Professor X out."

William Stryker seemed to have anticipated this and remained unfazed. "Once we capture Professor X and obtain Cerebro, we can use his powerful telepathy to annihilate all mutants in one fell swoop. That's half the battle."

"Adam, you've done an excellent job! When you return with the team, I'll report to the higher-ups and ensure you receive the credit you deserve."

Adam Robert felt elated. With the smoke in the church dissipated, he took off his gas mask and saluted the screen with respect. "It was all planned by you, Colonel. I was just doing my duty"

"Don't be modest, Adam..."

William Stryker smiled. "The eradication of mutants has been my wish for many years. If you can help me fulfill this wish, I will never treat you poorly."

"Thank you, Colonel."

Adam Robert was thrilled. However, his brow furrowed again. "By the way, Colonel, there was a small incident at the scene. Some NYPD personnel and a reporter from Daily Global inexplicably appeared, seemingly to establish a live connection..."

"A live connection?!"

William Stryker's face instantly changed. "Did the camera capture them?!"

"No!"

Adam Robert hastily shook his head. "We were all wearing gas masks, and as soon as I entered, I destroyed the camera. We definitely didn't get seen."

"That's good..."

William Stryker breathed a sigh of relief. "As long as your identities remain undisclosed, even if the audience saw them, they can only speculate wildly. If they suspect us, we'll simply deny it."

"Yes, Colonel!"

Adam Robert nodded and asked, "So, what should we do with these people? Should we bring them back with us?"

"Bring them back? Do you intend to keep them imprisoned forever?"

William Stryker sneered. "We used Jason's brain fluid to manipulate Nightcrawler into assassinating the president. Even the slightest possibility of this being leaked would be disastrous for you... and for me! Don't you understand such a simple truth?"

There was no concealing the killing intent in his words. Adam Robert was taken aback. "But, Colonel, these people shouldn't have seen us..."

"So what? Do you want to take the risk?!"

Without hesitation, William Stryker interrupted. "In our battle against mutants, which concerns the life and death of humanity, there must be no room for accidents... not a single one!"

He stared coldly at Adam Robert. "You know what you need to do, don't you?!"

Adam Robert swallowed hard. After hesitating for a few seconds, he nodded resolutely. "Understood, Colonel!"

"And what about Nightcrawler? His purpose was to assassinate the president, make the White House and the public hate mutants, and gain support for our plan to eliminate mutants. Now that the task is complete, he has no further value. Let's deal with him together."

William Stryker nodded with satisfaction, casually adding, "I find his blue skin repulsive!"

"Yes!"

Adam Robert responded in a deep voice, gesturing to his subordinates with his eyes.

Upon receiving the order, the subordinates hesitated for a moment but ultimately picked up their rifles and approached Catherine, Eddie, and the others.

Ta ta ta ta ta—

Several gunshots rang out, rendering Eddie and the others unconscious. Then, Nightcrawler was also shot.

This scene played out before William Stryker's eyes, and he adjusted his glasses with delight. "Pray for me in the church. They sacrificed themselves for the noble cause of eradicating mutants. God will remember them!"

Even the soldiers, including Adam Robert and the others who were duty-boundto follow orders, couldn't help but feel a wave of sickness at his words.

But William Stryker seemed completely unaffected. "I'm going to open a bottle of champagne now. When you return, we'll celebrate. I can't contain my excitement at the thought of wiping out all mutants soon!"

At that moment, an imperceptible gust of wind seemed to sweep through the church.

Adam Robert felt momentarily dazed, unsure of what was happening. He began to speak, "Colonel, your son Jason is also a mutant. If the plan succeeds, he will die too..."

"He should have died long ago!"

William Stryker's sudden outburst startled Adam Robert, his face contorting into a ferocious expression. "Ever since he awakened that damn superpower, his only value has been as an experimental subject for me. If it weren't for the hallucinogenic effect of his brain fluid and his ability to control Professor X... do you think I would have kept him alive until now?!"

His roar reverberated throughout the church, leaving Adam Robert's heart pounding. Meanwhile, the unsettling feeling within him grew stronger.

As William Stryker's confidant, he was well aware of his boss's deep-seated hatred for mutants and the inhumane experimentation he subjected his son to. However, deep down, Adam Robert still held some paternal affection for Jason...

Was it right to utter such words? What was happening? It was too late to think further as the video feed abruptly cut off.

Taking a deep breath, Adam Robert prepared to lead his men in retreat...

Suddenly, a loud explosion echoed above his head.
