I arrived back in town as the sun began to go down.
Glenn and Ralf spot me waving.
I don't react as I approach them.
"How did it go?" says Ralf slowly.
"Did you figure out what was wrong?" says Glenn.
I stare blankly at him. I take out the wand saying slowly, "I'm not the chosen one."
We all stand in silence.
I hurl the wand into the ground.
I run away from them.
"Foster!" they shout.
I don't look back as I run through the streets. I push past people as they yell to watch where I'm going. I arrive at the ruins of my house. I run inside and hid under the staircase. The sky is now filled with dark clouds.
It starts to rain.
I sit there in silence.
I slowly begin to cry.
"Why?" I said. "WHY AM I NOT THE CHOSEN ONE? WHY!!!!" I punch the ground repeatedly. I stop and look at my hands all bruised, "Why…"
I suddenly began to remember the people that I couldn't save. Uncle, Isabell, Kathrine, Turner, and the little girl I promised that I would keep her family safe if she gave the wand. All were killed by the Dark Lord.
I clench my hands tightly, "Everything I've done, all for nothing."
"Foster!" I hear Glenn and Ralf's voices in the distance.
I don't say anything.
They find me under the stairs. I look up, they're all drenched.
"Foster!" shouts Glenn.
"What happened?" says Ralf.
"Leave me alone," I said.
They stare at me now realizing what happened. They go under the staircase and sit down quietly.
"Didn't you hear me?" I said slowly. "Leave me alone."
"No," says Ralf. "You need us right now."
I look up angrily, "Just… Leave… ME!"
Glenn grabs my hands worryingly shouting, "NO! We are not leaving you!" I stare at her in shock, "Right now you need us the most!"
I shake my hands away, "No I don't!"
"Yes, you do!"
I stay quiet. I look down, "Everything I've done was for nothing."
"No it hasn't," says Glenn quickly. "You've done so many things that count!"
"Ya," says Ralf. "For example, reuniting us."
"Saving everyone here!"
"Ya," I said slowly as I began crying. "But I couldn't save Turner, Isabell, Kathrine… I couldn't save that little girl from the Dark Lord." I look down at my hands, "I couldn't save our town. I couldn't save my Uncle… I really should just…"
Glenn suddenly grabs my face. She makes me face her.
"Don't say it!" she shouts quickly. I stare at her in shock, "Ever since I met you, my life has taken a turn for the best… You are special to me."
Ralf sits next to me patting my back, "The same for me. I'll never stop being here for you."
"Stop trying to get revenge! You may not be destined to stop the Dark Lord… But you are destined to be great."
Her blue eyes shine as I stare at her in surprise.
I slowly smile.
"Did you just… Smile?" says Glenn, astonished.
"What?" I said turning red in embarrassment. "I did not."
"I made you smile!" shouts Glenn jumping around with Ralf. "Foster is finally smiling!"
"LET'S GO!!!" shouts Ralf laughing.
I burst out laughing uncontrollably letting all my bottled-in feelings out.
It stops raining. The sun begins to peek out from behind the clouds.
I stop laughing. We get out and stand up staring at the rainbow. I grab my friends. "Thanks, you two."
I hug Ralf.
"We got you," says Ralf.
I turn to Glenn and hug her tightly, whispering, "Thank you."
"No problem," says Glenn.
"So what do we do with the wand?" says Ralf as he takes out the wand.
I look at the wand. I grab it, "I'll hold onto it. If the legend is true and I'm not worthy of it," I said. "I guess I'll keep it safe until that person comes.”
