Planning

“What happened?” I said.

Odin clenches his fist, “This is the Dark Lord’s work. He was about to take everyone’s magic in my village. Before he was able to, I managed to teleport the survivors and me away.”

“We were never able to use magic again,” says Hellen. “Just enough to continue living…”

“But not enough to use magic,” I finished her sentence.

I turn to Odin, “I can maybe bring back your magic.”

Odin shakes his head, “Please don’t bring mine, bring our son’s magic back.”

I turn to Hellen who nods in agreement.

“I’ll try my best then.”

I reached out to Odin Jr.

Odin Jr flinches and backs up.

Odin places his hand on his son’s shoulder, “Come on son no need to be afraid.”

He pushes him towards me.

Odin Jr looks up at me and clenches his eyes closed.

I gently place my hand on his head and concentrate. Trying to search for his magical core. I found it to see that it was just a tiny ball.

I approach the tiny ball. I place my hands over it and begin pouring magic into it. It refuses to grow. I begin to pour magic now sweating until finally it grows rapidly.

I break out of my trance and trip backward.

Glenn catches me, “Did it work?”

I nod tiredly.

Hellen and Odin jump up in joy cheering lifting Odin Jr in the air.

“That took all of the magic inside me to revive it,” I said slowly.

“Are you going to be okay?!” says Hellen.

“Don’t worry,” says Glenn reassuringly. “He can go without magic.”

“How is that possible?” says Odin. “Is this your magic?”

“No,” I said. “This isn’t my magic. Aamon took mine away when I was a baby. Somehow I can now give and take magic.” I stand up, “Since it took all the magic in me to give him back the use of magic, I’m afraid it’s going to require more than one person’s magic to do the same to an adult.”

Odin looks down, “So everyone else…”

Hellen places her hand on his shoulder, “It will be a slow process but everyone will eventually get their magic back.” She turns to me, “Right?”

I nod.

“We’ll spread the word,” says Odin as they leave, leaving me and Glenn alone.

I clench my fists.

“What’s wrong?” says Glenn.

“Once I jumpstart someone’s magical core,” I said. “They should be able to generate magic on their own. But with only you being able to generate it here not including Odin Jr. I highly doubt that just us will be enough. I don’t want to see what would happen if the process fails.” I face Glenn, “What’s worse is that this will take a huge amount of time to bring everyone’s magic back. Time we could use to look for Merry…”

Glenn places her finger over my lips shushing me, “Hear me out then. The Chief has the magic ability to teleport. Think about it, he was able to teleport a large amount of people.”

My eyes light up, “All we need is to give him his magic back and he can teleport everyone here back to our town! That way the process will be way faster!” I hug her tightly, “You’re a genius!”

Glenn laughs, “We have to find a way back though.”

“You’re right. It took a week on carriage.”

“We’ll figure it out.”

Glenn heads for the exit.

“Glenn,” I said. She turns to me, “Glad to have you back.”

She smiles and exits the room.
