This is wrong. 'This is wrong, I shouldn't be doing this' is exactly what my subconscious was telling me. As much as I wanted to push him away and tell him I was occupied already, I couldn't.

"Alpha, please! It's Alpha Asher! He's demanding to retrieve his mate or else he'll.." the man trailed off and remained quiet for a few seconds, "he wants his mate or else he'll declare war on the pack!"

Both of our eyes widened at the sentence and Carter immediately got up for the floor and snapped back into reality, as I did as well.

Declaring wars on packs wasn't a common thing nowadays. It only really happened when the Alpha wants more land, more pack members or just for revenge. It was stupid to declare war on such small things.

Carter opened the door to reveal the nervous and frightened pack member. He seemed to be in his twenties. He looked me up and furrowed his eyebrows.

"Is this Asher's luna?" He curiously asked. Carter scratched the back of his neck and nervously chuckled. "Well-" he began before the guy shook his head and grabbed my arm.

"You just return to Asher before we all kill each other." He gruffly announced and began dragging me to the front door. Worry rushed through me at the thought of seeing Asher again. Before my heat wave I didn't plan on seeing him for another twenty four hours! Carter followed close behind the pack member and I and momentarily growled at the fact that he was touching me.

"Oh God, I'm so sorry. This is my fault I shouldn't have ever ran away! I was being so dramatic and-" I began before Carter came up to my side and spoke, "you ran away from him? Why? What'd he do to you?" He drowned me in questions.

"It was just about the mate bond.. normal mate things.."

Carter shook his head, "mates shouldn't act like that, Maddie.." I frowned at his response and looked down. In no time we were outside where Asher and a couple of warriors from both packs were growling at each other.

The pack member let go of my hand and I ran over to Asher. His eyes softened and relief washed over him. I ran into his arms and he hugged me tightly for at least two minutes.

He stuffed his head in my neck and sniffed, growling soon after. "I can smell.. him.. all over of you, Madison."

My heart squeezed in fear of telling him what happened between Carter and I.

"It's just- we were just talking." I stuttered out while looking down at the ground, too afraid to look into his eyes and tell him a complete lie.

The loud sigh he let out already informed me that he knew what I said was a lie. I was never good at lying.

His gaze transferred to Carter and I could feel the anger flooding him. "I told you to stay away from my mate, Carter. I warned you of what I'd do to you if you came near us again."

Carter didn't cower down, even though Asher's dominance was rolling off him in ways. He stood his ground and said, "my warriors found her on MY land. She came to me!"

I furrowed my eyebrows and spoke up, "wait-"

"I don't care where she was. You should've immediately brought her back to me when she showed up! She's my mate!"

Carter scoffed, "you're so blinded. You will blame your mate, me and even your family for every issue that you come across but you never stop to think that maybe you caused it! Why did Maddie even leave you in the first place? Mates don't leave each other!" Carter shouted from afar. My heart ached and I was so sick and tired of the yelling.

Asher bit his lip and shook his head. "What goes on between my mate and I is none of your business!"

Carter didn't reply to Asher's statement but instead ran his hands down his face and growled.

Asher spoke up once again, "I have business to handle with MY mate so I'll tell you this once again. Stay. Away. From. Her. Or else it'll be more than just some of your pack members that die."

Everyone outside gasped, including myself. I looked up at Asher in disbelief. He had.. killed some of Carter's pack mates? For me? Because I stumbled upon Carter's land innocent people lost their lives.

My eyes widened and tears filled my eyes. My brother is in this pack. Asher couldn't have killed him right, there's no way.. he wouldn't kill my brother because of me, right?
