'Welcome everyone to the Quidditch League final! Chudley Cannons Vs Falmouth Falcons, who do you think will take the trophy this year?' The announcer shouted in the mic and immediately supporters of both the teams began to scream their teams name.
'This is so exciting!' Rose exclaimed. They'd just arrived at the stadium and could already feel the passion in the air.
'I know. Can't wait for the cannons to win already.' Albus said walking behind Scorpius who was busy finding their seats.
A a good ten minutes later they finally find the place to sit and settled down. Rose was constantly looking at Scorpius to see if was still thinking about Lily.
'I can't believe Lily decided to ditch this game to go on a date.' She said casually but made sure Scorpius heard her.
It seemed that Albus too heard her for he asked, 'Do you know who she went with?'
'Some guy she met in France.' Another causal lie from Rose came. Scorpius tensed up she could see, which made her lying worth it. 'He is visiting the country and contacted Lily to meet up.'
'And she agreed? Just like that.' Albus said.
'Al, they know each other. Besides Lily told me they dated for a while in France too.' From the corner of her eyes Rose saw Scorpius clenching his fists. This is so much fun, she thought.
'What? She dated in France?' Albus looked bewildered.
'You were younger than her when you started dating so stop over reacting.' A warning form Rose and Albus's directed his attention back to the game and to his brother, James, who was the beater in the Chudley Cannons, just like his cousin Fred.
The rest of the game went by with a lot of excitement among the crowd which accentuated when the Cannons won the first half of the game. By this time Rose was sure Scorpius wasn't concentrating on the game and his mind was on Lily and her possible date. But much to her dismay and despite her repeated efforts her friend never once joined in on the conversation about Lily.
Because Rose had asked her cousin to wait at the restaurant for Scorpius to come for she was sure he would get jealous and go to Lily, she now saw no point in making her wait any longer. So she took out her cellphone, which the Weasley-Potter kids had, thanks to their muggle parents and uncle and aunt's influence, and texted Lily to go back home.
Soon the second half of the game began and with it also began the rain. Despite predictions of clear skies, it poured like crazy. But this didn't let the enthusiasm of the crowd down who was still busy cheering to their fullest.
'Ah! I wish the game end quickly; this rain doesn't seem to be stopping anytime soon.' Rose said shivering.
'I don't think the game's going to end soon.' Scorpius said earning a glare from Rose.
But luckily, thanks to the Chudley Cannons seeker Thomas Wood the game ended sooner than anticipated with a win for his team. 'And Wood has caught the snitch! They won! They Won!' Shouted the announcer.
'Yes! Woooo!' Albus jumped up in excitement and hugged Rose and Scorpius. 'Let's go meet James and Fred.' He aid to Rose.
'I'll go take out the car. It's raining, parking lot will be crowded soon.' Albus nodded to his friend for he knew Scorpius and James avoided each other like plague.
Scorpius went ahead and soon vanished in the crowd. 'Let's go.' Albus motioned for Rose to walk with him.
They were almost near the area where the cannons' team's waiting area when Rose remembered, 'Oh how can I forget?'
'What?'
'Al, car keys are in my bag.' Albus looked at the bag she was carrying and shook his head.
'Go give him the keys. I'll see the guys and meet you in the parking lot.' Rose nodded and rushed to where Scorpius was.
On reaching the parking area she brushed past people and thanks to his blonde hair, spotted Scorpius, who was fidgeting his pocket.
'I have it.' She told him.
'Rose! You have the keys? Thank god. I thought I lost them or something.'
'No worries.' She opened her bag and found the keys next to a…..wand. Rose took both of them out. She looked at the wand and then recognized it. 'Oh No!'
'What? Why do you have another wand?' Scorpius asked.
'It's not mine. It's Lily's.'
Scorpius looked alarmed. 'Why do you have Lily's wand?'
'It must've got mixed up with my stuff when she was changing earlier. What am I going to do now? Lily must be so worried.'
'Of course she must be. She went out and...' He stopped. 'Rose, Lily is out with a guy and she doesn't have her wand.'
'Don't worry about it. She's at home.'
'How can you be so sure?'
'I'd texted her earlier to go home. Wait let me call her.' Rose took out her cellphone but Scorpius interrupted her.
'It won't go through, there are jammers all around the stadium.'
Rose's eyes widened, 'What? Why?'
'Ministry's way of making sure that the magic world doesn't come into notice of the mugglues due to the large scale of which Quidditch happens.'
'What the heck! This means the texts that I sent her earlier didn't go through either. Shit!' She checked her phone and her worries became true. None of the texts she'd sent were delivered, which only meant... 'Lily is still there…..alone' She placed a hand on her forehead in frustration.
'What do you mean she's still there alone? Wasn't she with her date?'
'There is no date.' Scorpius looked confused so Rose explained everything to him. 'I asked her to pretend to go on a date to get you act on your feelings out of jealousy. I thought if I kept provoking you would want to go where she is and everything would…..'
'Would what Rose?! Are you crazy?'
'I'm sorry.'
'We'll talk about this later, first tell where she is?'
Rose gave him the location of the restaurant where Lily went. Scorpius took the car and left Rose to handle Albus, he knew she could come up with a good excuse after everything. It didn't take him much time to reach there and he frantically began searching for Lily. Everything was closed down, dark clouds formed in the sky poured continuously. But running for a while Scorpius finally found her.
She was sitting on a bench under a tree, her knees drawn to her chin, hugging her legs to stay warm, which she was failing miserably at, evident through her shivering. Scorpius let out a sigh of relief and ran towards her.
'Lily!' She looked up. The way her eyes lit up despite the condition that she was in, made Scorpius's heart hurt.
'You came.' She said, still shivering. Without a word, he picked her up in his arms and walked to the car. When both of them were inside, he still didn't say anything and just drove until they reached lily's apartment. He helped her get out of the car, placed his jacket on her shoulders and then walked her to the door.
Lily was surprised when she opened the door to her apartment and he came inside too. She wasn't expecting him to do so. Did Rose's plan finally work? She wondered.
Then began the one word game between them. 'Sit.' He said and she sat on the chair.
'Towel?' He asked.
'Bathroom closet.' She replied. When he came back with the towel, he silently dried her hair with it.
'Blankets?'
'Storage room.' He then got the blanket too and wrapped it around Lily.
'Coffee?'
'First cabinet.' She said pointing toward the open kitchen. Soon a cup of coffee was placed in her hands. She drank it not knowing where to begin her conversation from.
But Scorpius finished her dilemma within second when he said, 'I'll leave now.'
'So soon. Our first date hasn't even started yet.' She smiled.
'Our first date? I don't think so.' He said firmly and was about to leave when Lily got up to stop him in the process spilling the hot coffee on herself.
'Shit!'
Scorpius turned around and took her to the kitchen to wash her hand. 'What is your problem?' He said as he washed her hand.
'I think you know.' Lily said in a low voice.
He let go of her hand looked straight into her eyes. 'Lily, what you want can never happen.'
'Why not? If this is about Albus then I'm sure he will understand....'
'But why does he have to understand it? Why should I put my best friend in an awkward situation because I want to date his little sister…'
'So you do want to date me?'
'You still don't understand, do you? Lily nothing can happen between us.'
'Scorpius please just listen to me….'
'No you listen to me now. Everyone has been treating me like an outcaste ever since I was born. The people who were on your father's side in the war don't like me because I'm a Malfoy and my father and grandfather were death eaters. People whom my family supported don't like because my father has decided to stay away from them for good, they think I'm son of a traitor. Every freaking person around me had been prejudiced against me not giving me a single change to prove the kind of person I am…..except for Albus. He's the only person who had the guts to be friends with me, and not out of pity or because he wanted to show himself as a better person. But because he genuinely wanted to be friends with me. And I can't betray his friendship by doing something that will make people question his decision of being close to me.'
'But I really like you.' Lily said softly holding his hands.
But he freed himself from her and said, 'It doesn't matter to me.' And then he left.
That night Lily cried herself to sleep for the person she loved smeared her high hopes yet again. Little did she know that Scorpius's eyes too were filled with tears than with sleep that night for only he knew the amount of refrain it took for him to not tell her what he felt when he was under the same roof as her.
