The racket brings me out of my light sleep, heart bursting into a gallop. Someone's upstairs, knocking on Ezra's door. I wonder what's up, everyone's gone out, even him. Saw him leave awhile ago, headed for the garage, surely on his way to get his car and drive to Alency. Unless he's gone to Paris for the weekend, just so he stays away from me. So who the fuck's upstairs, trying to bring that door down?

I slide out of bed, pull on a robe and slippers, open the door just one inch. I take a peek, the door to Ezra's stairs is wide open, and the racket continues. But now, the desperate sound of a sobbing voice joins it. Alec's voice.
