Wheelchair

Felix felt the presence of the figure. The scent of peach and the shadow that slowly engulfed the right side of his body. Only one person in Orzon that he knew dared to do this.

"Daus, what do you want?"

"Ah, not cool. I wanted to surprise you."

Daus Mahakam, son of Itiar Mahakam. At the same age as Finn, he was tall and thin. His golden hair was pulled into a side ponytail and he had a mole under his beautiful dark brownish right eye.

Felix opened the back door of the house wide, letting the boy follow him in.

"If you want to play with Finn, go find him. I haven't seen him today either."

"Did you check in his room?"

"Yes, I'll check it. You wait on the sofa."

"I actually want to talk to you one-on-one, bro."

Felix peeked behind his shoulder. Daus was lounging on an old long brown sofa reading a book. He rarely wanted to have a discussion if it wasn't serious.

Felix wonders what he wanted to discuss now.

Felix entered Finn's room and the smell of old books greeted him. The bookshelves were filled to the brim with books and relics of the ancestors, gifts from Basil before he left three years ago. Almost all the wooden walls are covered with detailed map all made by Finn, who aspires to be a cartographer someday.

It's an aspiration he's had to bury deep given the incident two years ago, the one that chained him on the wheelchair.

Of course Felix found Finn busy with something at the study table, like always. He spent most of his time there, even the whole day. Maybe this place is like heaven to him.

Felix opened the window, let the wind and warmed sun entering the room more freely. No matter how cozy Finn's room was to his owner, he still needed fresh air.

Felix's cheek came into contact with Finn's soft one. "Hello little brother, what are you doing not answering me, hmm?"

"Oh, sorry. I was too focused on blueprinting, a weapon for you, bro. Check it out."

Finn coughed as he showed off his handiwork, then an excited smile graced his lips. Ever since he was born, Finn's physical condition was not good and was getting worse after that incident.

Felix hid his sympathy. Finn didn't like being pitied, no, he hated it.

"That called a katana bow. Do you like it?"

Two katana handles are connected together and the sharp part is connected by a string.

"Very nice, but how can the string be embedded in the sharp part of the katana? And the katana isn't flexible enough to be used as a bow, Finn."

"Yeah." Finn's exasperated face appeared. He wasn't giving up. "But I heard there's the best string in the world that can withstand the sharpness of diamonds."

"Alright, alright. I understand. Now take a shower, then have lunch." Felix put the blueprints on Finn's study table, then pushed his wheelchair towards the bathroom.

"I'm serious, bro. With that weapon you'll be even better. Your sword and archery skills will be put to good use."

"Yup, I know. Now take a shower."

"Don't come in, I can take my own bath. I'm an adult!"

"Alright buddy, I got it. If you need anything, call me, okay."

Felix helped Fin sit on the plastic chair and left him alone. He was worried about his brother, he had trouble standing up, let alone taking a shower. However, his little brother always refused to be helped. He wanted to be independent. Felix wished he could walk normally.

Leaning back against the sofa with both arms on the armrests, Felix admonished Daus. "So, what did you want to discuss?"

I hope you like it. Happy reading.
