"Did you hear they just opened that new mall in Hawkins?" You say, nudging your best friend, Alex. He shakes his head. "They opened that?"
You smile. "Yeah, do you wanna go there? I heard they have an amazing food court. Even a movie theater!"
"I don't see why not." Alex brushes a strand of his hair away from his dark brown eyes. "You're driving though!" He says, throwing on his slides and racing out the front door.
"You suck!" Shouting after him, you put on your white crocs, shutting and locking the door behind you. Alex is already sitting in the 'shotgun' seat, as it's called. You open the driver's seat and sit down. Inserting the silver keys, you turn on the car and play the radio; driving off.
Alex rolls down the window, puts his head out.
"You look like a dog when you do that."
"Shut up y/n."
Soon enough, you arrive at the StarCourt Mall. The neon sign has bright blue and pink colors.
"Wow, this place is huge!" You gasp, turning off the car.
"Let's go inside."
Rolling your eyes, you get out of the car. Alex never appreciates anything as much as you do.
----------
"What should we do first? We can go hit up that store over there, that looks exciting," you say pointing to ZALES.
"Slow down y/n, we need a map for this place. I'll definitely get lost."
You roll your eyes again, grabbing Alex by the arm and dragging him towards the stores. You enter ZALES, Claire's, JCpenny, and The Gap. You both don't end up buying anything, but it was fun running around trying things on.
"I'm hungry, should we get.." Alex looks at you and you look back at him.
"Icecream?" You both say at the same time. You laugh and so does he. Both of you love icecream.
You look around the mall for an icecream shop, and fine one called Scoops Ahoy. You point to it.
"That place looks fun, let's go in there."
Pulling Alex into the icecream parlor, it was surprisingly not that busy. A girl with short dark blonde hair, wearing a sailor outfit and a hat comes out to take your orders. "Ahoy there! My name's Robin, what can I get for you today?"
"I'll take one scoop of chocolate on a cone please." You say to Robin.
"Alrighty, and for you?" She looks up at Alex.
"I'll get mint chocolate chip on a cone please."
"How many scoops?" Robin says, jotting down his order on the notepad.
"Two."
"Great! And can I have a name for the order?"
"y/n."
"Splendid. I'll call your name when it's ready." Robin politely smiles.
You & Alex wait over by the stand. "She was nice. I'm gonna leave a tip," you say.
"And pretty," Alex adds.
You rolled your eyes and laughed.
"Y/N! Order for y/n!" You hear at the counter. But it isn't Robin's voice, it's a male's voice.
Walking over to grab you and Alex's icecreams, a boy looking around your age has the cones in his hands. His name tag reads 'Steve'. He's also wearing a sailor outfit and a hat.
He looks up at you, and smiles. "Y/N?"
"That's me!" You smile.
Grabbing the cones from his hands, you don't want to leave yet. He's cute. He has fluffy dark brown hair, brown eyes, perfect lips, and a perfect nose.
"Getting a lot of customers?" You ask shyly.
"Not a lot actually, we aren't booming yet." He makes an explosion motion with his hands.
You giggle.
He makes eye contact with you for a second. You can feel yourself blush, his gaze almost impossible to keep.
"You should stop by more often, you look like an ice cream kind of girl." Steve says smiling.
You laugh. "How'd you know?"
"Good guess?" He laughs. You laugh too.
Both of you meet each other's gaze once again.
"By the way, I like your name, Y/N."
You couldn't help but smile. Your heart fluttered with happiness. No one's ever complimented your name before.
"Thank you Steve."
He smiles. "Ah, you better eat that icecream before it melts."
You looked down at the icecream, nodding.
"Oh, right. How much?"
"Take it."
"For free? No, I'm sorry. I can't do that." You furrow your eyebrows.
"You'll pay for it next time, alright? I'm on duty Monday through Friday." He grins, adjusting his white hat that has 'ahoy!' in blue letters on it.
You felt flustered, but also excited. You didn't even know this boy, he didn't know you. Why was he being so kind? But anyway, you accepted it.
"Well, expect more visits from me then."
Steve smiles. "I will be. Have a lovely day, Y/N."
Walking away with the icecream in your hands, you hand the mint one to Alex.
"Geez, what took so long? Making friends over there?"
"Maybe," you take a lick from the scoop.
"Whatever. Go put this in the tip jar." He hands you 5 dollars.
You smile and nod, folding it and dropping it into the jar.
Steve noticed, winking at you. The Robin girl drew a tally next to 3 more on a whiteboard divided into two sides. One said 'YOU SUCK!' and the other side said 'YOU RULE!' There were no tally's on the you rule side. Steve erased the tally Robin drew. Before you could spy anymore, Alex pulled your shoulder.
"Watch it Alex, I could've dropped my icecream."
"Yeah yeah, do you think that hotshot over there is cute or something?"
"Maybe," You say again.
Alex scoffs. "He probably sees a hundred girls a day. Don't get your hopes up."
You laughed with him, but deep down inside you had a good feeling about this icecream boy. Maybe you'll come back tomorrow.
For now, you and your best friend, Alex, enjoy your icecreams before leaving and going back home.
