Chapter 6. BREAKING IN

I spent the rest of my day doing different things. I had lunch with Malachi instead of Robby and Derek. After lunch, however, I spent time in our room with them. Robby, as usual, was nosy. He was complaining that I was spending a lot of time with Malachi instead of him. I knew very well that Robby was being jealous, not that he wanted to spend time with me.

I also took some time and napped my head. It was still aching a little from my previous drinking.

At around 7 pm, I had dinner with Robby and Derek. Once we had done it, I disappeared on them and headed to our secret meeting. I was the first to arrive. After all, I was the one who wanted so badly to cross over. I hopped out the window. I waited for the others as I smoked Malachi's cigarette.

After about ten minutes, Malachi and Billy walked in.

"Ooh, dude! You in early." Malachi spoke. "and you finally decided to be a smoker. Glad you took my advice, mate." He added and sat on a wooden bench. Billy sat next to him. Malachi lit a cigar.

A few minutes later, Alexa walked in. She was with Robby and Jona, Malachi's other roommates.

"Shit! Robby!" I exclaimed in disbelief. How on earth would Alexa bring him of all the people? I felt a sudden pain strike my heart. The last person I wanted to be involved with was Robby.

"Yes. I told you we need all the help we can get and we need Robby's." Alexa said.

"Oh, God! " I exclaimed again. The thought of Robby being part of the plan was killing me.

"Can't we just find someone else? This guy is so annoying. He's going to be a bother to all of us." I added.

"You don't get to negotiate about this. You are the newest newbie Chase. You should know that we are doing you a favour by allowing you to be part of this plan." Billy's words sprang into my mind. What the hell was he talking about? That was more like my plan. I started the whole thing when I told Malachi I was missing my family. At that moment, I felt robbed ideally, but I was not in a position to argue. I was afraid I might even get kicked out of the plan, so I apologized.

"Sorry," I said and chuckled.

"So, can we begin? What's the plan?" Jona spoke for the first time since they walked in. Robby was still silent. I could not believe that he got nothing to say, not even when I insulted him. Just like a talk of the devil, Robby walked to where I was and hopped on to sit with me.

"Can I get a cigar, please?" He requested. That was the first time since I landed that Robby used the term, please. He surprised me. I handed him over one piece of cigar and even helped him to light it up.

"Thank you." He whispered to me. Ooh God! He was being so sweet. "This must be pretence may be to please them." I thought.

I shut down the thought of the nosy Robby being the all-nice Robby and focused on Alexa, who was explaining the crossing-over plan.

"So we need weapons. And um....we know that the elders are the one who guards them."

"How are we going to get them?" Malachi asked.

"We are going to steal them," Alexa responded.

"Steal them?" I asked.

"Yes steal them. No one is going to give them to you, halfwit." Robby spoke. This guy was something. He was changing so fast.

"So, at around midnight we are going to break in get the weapons and leave on the first light," Alexa said.

"How are we going to steal them if they are guarded?" I asked.

"Leave that to me," Alexa said proudly.

Alexa called off the meeting, and everybody returned to their rooms to prepare for the midnight robbery. I was so nervous. I spent the preparatory hours overthinking the whole heist. Robby would shoot warning glances at me. Derek was not part of the plan, so we had to work best not to spill the beans, especially me because Robby was all chill. I decided to take a nap to distract my mind, but the more I avoided thinking, the more I thought about it.

"Stop acting up, Chase boy," Robby spoke as soon as Derek stepped into the bathroom.

"I am so nervous," I said.

"You need to work on it dude. Remember Derek should not know about this." He was talking when Derek stepped out.

"What's that that am not supposed to know?" Derek asked.

"That I'm...I am going to the club tonight with him. I don't think you should know that." Robby lied.

"Why?" Derek asked.

"Because you don't drink and you hate it when I drink," Robby said and giggled at him.

"Yeah. Ok, I don't care what you wanna do. I am off to bed." Derek said and hopped in bed.

****

At exactly midnight, we stepped out of our room, silently managing our steps. Derek was dead asleep, so it wasn't so hard to sneak out.

Robby and I met with the other crew members at the incomplete building.

"Malachi and Jona will be on the lookout. The rest of us will break in." Alexa said.

I wanted to complain about the position I was put in, but I remembered I wasn't in a position to negotiate.

"Let's get this done," Billy said and started walking. He had a torch and a small knife in his hands. We followed him and headed to the armoury.

Once on the premises, I spotted two guards at the front door and another loitering around. The armoury was a big building with mighty doors, as I could tell.

The loitering guard was not much of a problem because Billy took him out quickly by knocking back his head, and he fell to the ground unconscious. Alexa and Robby went for the guards at the front door. I strolled behind them as I was still nervous. Malachi and Jona were left to look after the guard Billy knocked out.

Alexa walked confidently to where the two guards were. She was smiling at them.

"Hey, guards." She spoke proudly, scaring me. This was a robbery, not some smiling moment.

"What are you guys doing here?" One of the guards asked.

"We just need a little help. " Alexa said.

"We didn't come here to negotiate with them. Can we just knock them out just like the other dude?" I asked.

"What is he talking about?" The second guard asked and stood up. I could read the seriousness in his tone and on his face.

"Shit! " Alexa exclaimed and, without warning, knocked the guard in the face. This sparked an uproar among the other guard, who stood up and knocked Alexa using their gun. Alexa lost her balance and was about to hit the ground when I held her.

"I am fine," Alexa said, pushing herself from my hands. Robby was now nudging the guard who hit Alexa on the wall. Alexa moved to them.

"I got this," Alexa said and whispered something to the guard. She looked straight into his eyes, and immediately the guard relaxed and grinned, then walked away.

"What did you say to him? " I asked nervously.

"Just asked for a little favour," Alexa said and walked to where the other guard was.

"Go to sleep." She whispered to him, and immediately the guard slept. She was compelling them and controlling their mind. I thought. How is that possible?" I asked myself.

Robby reached for the keys from the guard's belt and removed them.

"We only have minutes," Billy said. He just walked to us.

"Let's get going." He added.

Robby used the keys he stole from the guard to open the door. We hurriedly walked in and grabbed a few weapons starting, from knives and ropes to guns.

We packed everything in Robby's backpack and started walking out.

"Wait....wait," Robby spoke. We stopped. I looked at Robby, and he was sniffing like someone looking for a scent. It was like he could smell something we were not.

"Someone's here. I can smell someone." He finally spoke.

"Smell someone?" I asked, and before Robby answered me, I heard some threatening footsteps approach. I glanced at the others, and they looked worried. They also listened to the footsteps.

"Yeah. Someone is coming." Billy spoke.

"What do we do?" Robby asked.

"Hide," Alexa said, but the person appeared before we went into hiding. I could tell it was a he from how the person was standing upright. He was wearing a long black jacket, and his face was covered. At that moment, I felt a thin sweat drop down my neck. I was scared.

"Who the hell are you?" Billy asked. Instead of saying his name. The scary lad took two decisive steps closer to us.

"Don't kill us." I started begging.

"We are already dead, dumb ass," Alexa said, reminding me I was dead.

"I asked who the hell are you?" Billy asked him again, holding his knife and facing the scary dude. The guy didn't talk and instead uncovered his face. Whoa! To our surprise, Derek's face hit ours.

"What the hell, Derek?" Robby asked.
