She could not fathom how his voice could be so gently comforting yet so subtly indignant. Her teary gaze stared at his hand that had declined her urge to leave.
His grip around her wrist loosened as he strode toward the pool. His hand slowly slipped from her wrist to her palm as he sat down, dipping his legs in the warm water.
Blinking off her tears, she shrugged aside her battle with her own self for the time being. Allowing herself to slip down to sit beside him, she suppressed the urge to break down in tears and apologize. The former would have made her seem like a mess while the latter… she had no idea.
Were any amount of her remorseful words seeking his forgiveness going to be convincing enough? Heck, no. She pulled her hands in her lap as the warm water jumped on her feet when she dipped them in.
