A vagabond's ascent

Our protagonist is of the “vagabond” species. A pretty cool creature, but nothing compared to humans and their inventions. Humans can go eat my sawtooth branch. The world is constructed of floating island. Above and below is the “void” as all call it. Nobody has returned from the void yet, so they’re assumed dead. Are they really dead? Yeah, probably. Travel is hard - it requires flight, cause how else would you get between the floating islands? That means our protagonist’s species, the “vagabond” as I’ve established, can also fly.

A cruel joke.

"Haah, haah.. I knew it." Things always go south when you least expect 'em to.

There's me, running full speed ahead to survive. And there's three gigantic meatballs, peacefully chasing their food. Honestly though, how do I always get myself in this shit?

I hid behind a tree to take a breather.

Well, it's not really breathing, since I don't even have a mouth, but this material I'm made of creates lots of heat from the friction, which I have to disperse as steam. If not for that, I wouldn't even have to consume water.

I heard an explosion behind me.

"Where the hell did that come from?" I leaped forwards, getting away just in time from the second one.

A glance behind revealed the source of the sound. It was nothing more than rock betting crushed by the meatball's teeth.

"The fuckers couldn't find me so they just decided to obliterate the entirety of this environment." That's one way to do it.

As silently as I could, I ran up to the closest one while the other two were busy chasing some plate bugs, and stuck my claws into its squishy flesh.

The meatball released a pained squeal, revealing my location to the others.

My "claws" slid along the surface of the skin, leaving three tear lines behind as I made my way towards the gills. They ripped apart with ease, giving me plenty of time to make my escape.

I repositioned, ready to battle the next two, all the while watching a pressurized stream of blood mixed with air spray from the torn holes of what used to be a giant meatball.

My claws have been reshaped to be a bunch longer and sharper, sacrificing on some durability. These guys are soft, so this should work better, but I would have ideally liked to add a bit more mass to them, though time's limited.

I released another thick cloud of steam from my eye sockets, blurring my vision for a split second.

The got fog instantly cleared up with a gush of wind made by the approaching meatball. Another explosion resembling crunch, filled the air, making me instinctively back away.

An oddly shaped object with a blue shade was flung into the air, but I didn't give it much though and kept backing away.

Nearly tripping on a rock, I stuck my arms out to support my weight, but instead ended up falling to the right side. My eyes shaking from the adrenaline, I fixed my gaze on a pool of blue liquid dripping from where my right arm should be.

Convulsing in my own blood, I let out a silent scream.

"Oh, you.." I sent a huge flow of energy to my shoulder, forcefully growing back the arm I just lost.

The recoil from doing so kicked in, making me feel like I was being burned alive.

I was quaking from the huge amount of stress my body was just sent through, but getting up on my feet was no problem.

In a matter of seconds, my blades have been transformed to battle-modified needles.

I rushed at the creature who dared to do this to me and saw its mouth shut at lightning fast speed. I sprung over my foe, landing a step behind before turning around and using the momentum to thrust both needles straight through its back.

It tried turning around when the pain kicked in, as expected, so I angled my arms in a way that the blade part would still be in contact with its flesh, effectively making the meatball cut itself on my weapon.

Just as the previous one, this guy also started squealing painfully, with blood raining from the fresh wounds.

"You're done for." With my footing strong, I started sucking the life out of the creature.

Second meatball, down.

I raised my arm - the one I lost a moment ago - slowly into the air and pointed it at the last meatball, clearly showing my intent to keep fighting. The creature looked at me with fear before fleeing in the opposite direction; back where it came from.

"Haha, yes! Run from my great and terrifying self! Ahah, that feels good." It's the first time I scared the shit outta a creature many times larger than me.

I sat down to cool off, because, as I just noticed, my skin had started getting softer and squishier, nearly melting form the built up heat.

That was hella dangerous. I wanna do it again, ye. Once I fully recover, I'm get every last one of you. Keep that's in your giant heads before I split em open.

Hyped, that how I felt.

Wooo our vagabond boyo finally went loose and bordered some big scary stuff.

T'was a pretty fun event.
