"I told you Mr. Cole, I need these records now, they are needed in the next department right now" came the voice of a man as he looked very upset as he raised his voice and he threw a bunch of documents on the desk of another man.
"And I told you Mr. James that they will be ready by tomorrow, you cannot rush these things, mistakes cannot be made, or else they can have major consequences" came the voice of Larry as he looked at the man named Mr. James with calmness, even though he had just shouted at him and threw documents on his desk.
"I cannot wait till tomorrow, either you give me the information I need, or else…" said Mr. James.
"Is that a threat Mr. James?" asked Larry as he smiled, he was not going to stand for threats, and they no longer worried him, he had his fair share of those in this line of work of his, obviously people with something to hide would threaten him.
"Well of course not… but just do your job!" said Mr. James.
"I do, do my job, I will have the documents you need ready before 5pm, that is the best I can give you, some accounts still need to be balanced and rechecked, and once that is done, and I am satisfied with the information, I will give you the necessary documents that you require… it is as simple as that" said Larry as he smiled.
"You better Cole, you better, or else… you are out of here" said Mr. James.
"Do have a good day Mr. James, I will see you at 5pm" said Larry as he smiled and Mr. James scoffed as he walked out of Larry's office in anger.
"What shall I never see in this job of mine?" asked Larry to himself as he scoffed, he was only twenty four, he had just graduated, and he was young, people thought that they would be able to intimate him, but they were wrong, he might have been wrong, but he was not stupid, he loved his job, and his job entailed providing accurate financial information to the firm, and no one was going to rush him to omit something.
"Well then there goes my lunch break" said Larry to himself as he sighed as he scratched his head, he was sure that at this rate he would begin to loose his hair because of all this stress from obviously shady people.
"Who am I kidding? Like I was going to eat lunch in the first place" said Larry to himself as he laughed, he did look very young, his straight brown hair, his large brown eyes, he was actually not too attractive and neither not too ugly, he was just right… or so he had been told.
"*Sigh*, let me just get this guy off my back" said Larry as he sighed and he stood up from his desk and he went to the drawers in his office that were labelled with year dates, he went to the drawer with the date 1980 labelled on it, and he opened the drawer as he found the documents he was looking for as he sighed and he sat back down at his desk, it would take him a long while to finish comparing and analysing all these documents and records, and he could not ask for help, he was the only accountant on this matter, to better control the privacy and risk of information being leaked out.
So even if he liked it or not, he was always going to be questioned and treated unnecessarily badly, since for some people he might have been doing good, while to others, he was a threat to their secrets.
"According to this, early June at the beginning of the financial year, a huge loan was taken from the bank, the instalments have seemed to be paid, but over here in the list of bank transactions, some of those instalment amounts are missing, which means that someone somewhere is doing some shady business" said Larry to himself as he scoffed.
In his few years of being an Accountant, it was clear that the former accountants the ones that were supposed to be preventing the fraud, were actually involved in the fraud, so he would not be surmised if that was the same case here, because you could not tell him that the supposed accountant did not notice all these huge sums of money missing in the records.
"Ha, and they call this a law firm, there is more corruption here than in a computer" said Larry to himself as he scoffed, he would now have to draw up a new balance for the accounts with the accurate information he now had, and he would explain his hypothesis to the boss later, because for now, he had to shut Mr. James up.
He also had no doubt in his mind that Mr. James was as shady as the shadow of a tree during the sunset, his overly emotional demand for the documents sounded to Larry like he wanted to tamper with his reports, so Larry was going to find a way to stop that, he would just have to make two backup copies of whatever he was doing now.. just in case some people wanted to frame him.
"Hey Larry, we are going out for lunch, are you coming?" came the voice of a young brown haired, brown eyed woman as she knocked on the open office door to Larry's office as she smiled.
"I can't" replied Larry as he kept on looking down not to loose his focus, he had to calculate some numbers, sure he could have used a calculator, but he wanted to keep his mind sharp, besides he loved working with numbers.
"You can't or you won't?" asked the woman as she smiled.
"Both" said Larry as he wrote down a figure and he looked up at the woman.
"I told you he won't come, he's too much of a stickler to" came the voice of a man behind the woman as he scoffed.
"Well if you must know, Mr. James is heavy on my back, he insists on some documents, and I have to provide them to him by 5pm, or else it would be off with me head, so no lunch for me" said Larry as he explained rather calmly, he did not seem angry but rather as if it was expected.
"Awww I see" said the woman.
"What a shame, maybe next time" said the woman.
"Sure" said Larry as he looked back down at what he was doing as the woman left and she walked away.
…
Larry had been in this same office of his for three hours, his colleagues had all gone to lunch and returned back to the office, while he remained in the exact same position, he had removed the grey blazer of his suit, and only his white shirt was left.
"*Sigh*" said Larry as he sighed, his hand was aching him, he had been writing and writing and calculating, he needed a break, like he could have one.
Suddenly in his quiet office, the telephone suddenly rang and he picked it up.
"Hello" said Larry as he sighed.
"Yes Sir, I am in the office now" said Larry.
"Alright, I will come to your office now Sir" said Larry.
"Yes Sir… thank you" said Larry as he put the telephone down and he sighed as he stood up, he quickly gathered together the documents on his table he put them in a the drawer of his desk, and the locked the drawer with a key, just in case, he would come back and finish this, he was almost done, the boss had called him.
…
"You called for me Sir?" asked Larry as he walked into another office where a bald man was sitting and writing some things.
"Yes Larry, please have a seat" said the man as he smiled and he gestured that Larry sit down, which he did.
"Thank you Sir" said Larry as he sat down.
"You sounded tired over the phone" said the man as he smiled.
"Well Sir, I was tired, I have to check the documents you asked me to give to Mr. James" said Larry.
"I see, I hope you are having no problems?" asked the man as he smiled.
"Nothing I cannot handle Sir" said Larry.
"Good, good, I like you Larry, you are very dedicated" said the man as he smiled.
"Thank you Sir" said Larry.
"And that is why, I want to introduce someone to you, someone that will be able to help you and lighten your load" said the man as he smiled.
"Sir… I…" said Larry as he was cut off by a knock on the door.
"Ahh that must be her already" said the man.
"Come in" said the man as he smiled.
"You called for me Sir?" came the voice of a woman as she walked into his office.
"Yes... yes" said the man as he smiled.
"Oh hello" said the woman as she turned to look at Larry as she smiled.
"My name is Ivanka Birch" said the woman as she smiled at him and she brought her hand out for a handshake.
